Job Title: Procurement Manager

Location: Clevedon, Somerset

Employment Type: Full Time, Permanent (Hybrid Working – Minimum 3 Days in Office)

Responsible for: Developing and managing procurement strategies for equipment and materials to ensure prompt, cost-effective supply to Hydro’s UK operating businesses.

 

Directly managing and motivating a team of buyers, ensuring efficient procurement operations and fostering a collaborative work environment.

 

Developing and managing strategic supplier relationships and implementing procurement best practices to support the company’s operational objectives.

 

 

Physical Requirements:

• Driver’s Licence: Required

• Passport: Required

 

 

Competence & Qualifications:

• Graduate degree, ideally in a supply chain management or engineering discipline

• Membership of an appropriate professional body, e.g. Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS)

• Approximately 5 years’ experience in roles related to procurement

• At least 2 years’ experience in a team lead role, preferably within the equipment supply industry

• Knowledge of current supply and quality management techniques

• Strong analytical approach to decision-making

• Effective communication skills at all levels

• Self-motivated, flexible, and results-driven with a hands-on approach

• Strong IT skills (Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint & Word), along with ERP experience

• Experience managing international supply chains; additional languages preferred

 

 

Key Duties:

1. Understand business requirements to establish and maintain a competitive supply base aligned with the company’s strategic objectives.

2. Establish, maintain, and develop the company’s:

• Procurement policies, strategies, and practices

• Quality policies and practices

Ensuring these are adopted by, and embedded within, business units.

3. Lead commercial negotiations with supply partners and draft legal contracts.

4. Develop strategic category plans, including demand forecasting, consideration of market factors, and agreeing an opportunity pipeline with the business.

5. Deliver value through sourcing exercises and continuous improvement via supplier management of key strategic relationships.

6. Proactively identify, evaluate, and pursue procurement options that offer value for money.

7. Identify price trends within the supply chain that may impact the business and advise on their implications for future activities.

8. Establish metrics to report and drive improvements in:

• Cost of goods, on-time delivery, and lead time

• Quality of products and services

9. Develop the buying team and drive the adoption of best practices in procurement and quality management across all divisions. Where necessary, define and implement improvement programmes with suppliers.

10. Develop synergies either locally or within the group.

11. Identify and agree on performance matrices and prepare data for monthly performance reports.

12. Perform risk assessments on key suppliers and implement appropriate risk-reduction strategies to ensure business continuity.

13. Perform duties in accordance with all relevant legislation, particularly the Health and Safety at Work Act, and apply the requirements of ISO 45001.

14. Apply the requirements of BS EN ISO 9001, 50001, and 14001, as appropriate, within the areas of responsibility.

15. Undertake any other duties reasonably required by the company.
