The Carpenter lays out work from plans or sketches and constructs wooden structures used in construction operations, including concrete forms, falsework, pouring chutes, and scaffolding. Work may be built in place to line and grade or prefabricated in units for later erection

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Lay out work from plans or sketches.
  • Build wooden structures such as concrete forms, falsework, pouring chutes, and scaffolding.
  • Build forms in place to line and grade, or prefabricate form units for installation.
  • Build forms for bridges, drainage structures, walls, and related construction needs.
  • Perform related carpentry tasks including hammering, nailing, cutting, measuring, bolting, and handling building materials.
  • Follow jobsite onboarding/safety expectations including use of required PPE and prompt incident reporting to supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma/GED preferred.
  • Prior construction carepentry experience preferred

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to read and work from plans or sketches and accurately measure/cut/assemble form materials.
  • Proficiency with common hand and power tools used for carpentry and form building

Work Requirements

  • Must meet site safety requirements and comply with all company/OSHA/MSHA policies and PPE standards.
  • Must be able to complete required mobile equipment training/evaluation to be authorized to operate (training may include formal instruction, practical evaluation, and periodic refresher/recertification per program requirements).
  • Willingness to work nights/weekends/overtime and travel/ride to job sites as needed.

 

 

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

  • Requires climbing, lifting, stretching, driving, pushing/pulling with extremities, exposure to vibration, twisting, reaching, and riding/operating on rough terrain.
  • Requires occasional lifting of up to 25-50 pounds.
  • May assist with adjusting or changing steel track, as needed

Work Environment

  • May be exposed to extremes of hot and cold weather and outdoor conditions.
  • Work is often performed around moving equipment and active jobsite hazards; strict adherence to safety rules and PPE is required.
  • Overtime work may be required, and the role may require riding to and from job sites
