Job Description

Director, Shared Services Transition Lead
AMAT
Atlanta, Georgia, United States

Job ID:  529007

CRH's Americas Materials business is the leading provider of building materials in North America. The aggregates, asphalt, ready mixed concrete, paving and construction services we deliver are critical to building our world. Our operations span 45 U.S. states and two Canadian provinces with over 30,000 employees across 1,700 operating locations.

Position Overview

A part of the global diversified building products group, CRH, Americas Materials (AMAT) is currently recruiting for the position of Director, Shared Services Transition Lead within the Corporate Finance team and based in Atlanta, GA. The successful candidate will be responsible for the accountable execution partner for moving in-scope accounting activities into the Shared Services Center (SSC) through a controlled, wave-based transition. The role is focused on implementing a detailed roadmap into coordinated action across the AMAT divisions, the receiving SSC organization, and the Controllership Center of Excellence (CoE), while maintaining close alignment with the SAP implementation team.

In line with the future-state finance operating model, the role balances the pace of migration with the readiness, rigor, and control needed to protect business continuity and stay aligned to AMAT’s broader Finance transformation objectives. The incumbent is expected to exercise senior judgment, mobilize cross-functional leaders and subject matter experts, make clear recommendations regarding readiness and go/no-go decisions, and hold workstreams accountable for meeting the conditions required to successfully transition and stabilize each wave. The role also establishes reusable transition disciplines that strengthen AMAT-owned shared services capability and prepare the organization for subsequent process standardization and technology enablement. This is a key position within the CRH Americas Materials Finance function and will receive significant exposure to senior CRH management teams.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Lead the SSC acceleration and wave roadmap
    • Own the integrated SSC transition roadmap, wave calendar, milestones, critical path, and cross-wave dependencies from mobilization through stabilization.
    • Lead the approved transition scope and activity ownership decisions into executable wave plans aligned with the Accounting Acceleration roadmap and Project Phoenix sequencing.
    • Support the establishment of a common transition methodology, governance cadence, decision forums, templates, and escalation paths that can be reused across waves.

  • Drive Wave Readiness and Entry / Exit Discipline
    • Own the definition of practical wave-entry, go-live, stabilization, and exit criteria across people, process, technology, data, access, controls, and service management.
    • Lead integrated readiness assessments with sending and receiving teams; challenge unsupported green statuses and require evidence for material readiness conclusions.
    • Confirm that staffing, onboarding, access, role clarity, process documentation, controls, training, and support arrangements are in place before transition.
    • Coordinate remediation plans for readiness gaps and make go/no-go recommendations to the designated decision authority.

  • Mobilize Resources and Build Receiving-Organization Capability
    • Partner with SSC leadership, Division Finance leaders, process owners, HR, and enabling teams to identify and secure the resources required for each wave.
    • Align staffing, onboarding, access, subject matter expert availability, and temporary capacity to the timing and complexity of transition demand.
    • Build sustainable AMAT-owned transition capability by embedding repeatable tools, governance, decision rights, and lessons learned.

  • Lead Process Documentation and Knowledge Transfer Readiness
    • Ensure process documentation captures activities, systems, and required business context needed for transition and steady-state execution.
    • Own the wave-level knowledge-transfer strategy and plan, including documentation, training, shadowing, reverse shadowing, competency checks, and acceptance evidence.
    • Confirm that the receiving team can perform in-scope work with appropriate quality, control, timeliness, and escalation support before ownership transfers.
    • Identify knowledge-retention risks and require corrective actions when documentation, training participation, or receiving-team capability is insufficient.

  • Coordinate Cutover
    • Lead the development and coordination of detailed cutover plans, including sequencing, accountabilities, communication, access, contingency arrangements, and formal handover.
    • Coordinate parallel operations where required and protect key transactional processes (e.g., month-end close, payroll, customer service, and supplier service) during transition.
    • Ensure contingency and rollback considerations are understood, decision rights are clear, and critical risks have active mitigation plans.

  • Own Stabilization / Hypercare
    • Lead post-go-live hypercare and monitor performance, control execution, transaction backlogs, service issues, staffing, and knowledge gaps until agreed stabilization criteria are met.
    • Drive root-cause resolution rather than short-term workarounds, while balancing service continuity with timely transition progress.
    • Confirm formal acceptance by the receiving organization and process owners before local capacity is released or transition support is withdrawn.

  • Coordinate Transformation Dependencies & Operating Model Evolution
    • Align SSC wave execution with Project Phoenix, Controllership CoE enablement, Finance Partnering, Indirect Tax, workforce actions, and other Finance transformation dependencies, as needed.
    • Ensure transition decisions reinforce future-state activity ownership, shared-services adoption, standardization objectives, and a scalable service-management model.
    • Capture lessons from pilots and earlier waves and incorporate them into subsequent planning, readiness criteria, staffing assumptions, and risk mitigations.
    • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, or prepare processes for future automation, without allowing unapproved redesign efforts to delay critical transition milestones.

  • Provide Program Reporting & Governance
    • Provide concise, decision-oriented reporting on progress, readiness, risks, issues, interdependencies, resource constraints, and required leadership actions.
    • Maintain the transition plan, readiness dashboard, risk and issue log, decision log, dependency view, and milestone status as the single source of truth for execution.
    • Chair or facilitate wave governance forums and ensure that decisions, owners, due dates, and consequences are explicit and tracked to completion.
    • Escalate emerging risks with fact-based options, recommended actions, and a clear assessment of business-continuity and timeline implications.

  • Support Change Management & Communications
    • Communicate wave timing, impacts, and expectations to affected division, SSC, and business stakeholders
    • Reinforce new ways of working and clear ownership through transition, stabilization, and steady-state handover.

  • Maintain professional demeanor at all times while representing the company.
  • Other duties as directed.
