Position Overview
The Finance Director Technology will lead the financial management of the Technology function, ensuring that technology investments - particularly large-scale capital projects (e.g., ERP upgrades, infrastructure modernization, digital transformation) - deliver maximum value on time and within budget. This role drives cost optimization, embeds strong financial governance, and acts as a strategic business partner to enable informed decision-making across the technology portfolio.

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
In this role, you will:

Strategic & Financial Leadership
•    Own the financial strategy for Technology, including budgeting, forecasting, and multi-year CAPEX planning.
•    Develop and review business cases for major technology investments, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and ROI targets.
•    Provide financial leadership and strong cost tracking governance for large-scale programmes (ERP, infrastructure, digital initiatives), ensuring scope, cost, and benefits are aligned.

Cost Transformation & Optimization
•    Identify and deliver cost transformation initiatives: vendor contract optimization, license management, cloud vs on-premise trade-offs.
•    Implement robust cost control mechanisms, including variance analysis and change order tracking.
•    Drive financial efficiency through automation and data-driven insights.

Governance & Compliance
•    Ensure strong financial controls, auditability, and compliance with internal and external standards (SOx or equivalent).
•    Partner with PMO to embed financial governance in programme delivery, including milestone stage-gating and risk escalation.

Business Partnering & Stakeholder Management
•    Act as a trusted advisor to Technology leadership team and business units impacted by technology change.
•    Translate technical investment plans into clear financial impacts for senior stakeholders.
•    Collaborate with Group Finance and other functions to ensure consistency and alignment with corporate strategy.

Reporting & Analysis
•    Deliver timely, accurate financial reporting on technology performance: actuals and forecast vs budget in compliance with IFRS and US GAAP standards
•    Leading the 5-year financial planning cycle and 1-year Budget reporting cycle to ensure the financial planning supports the broader team ambition and costs / benefits are clearly communicated to senior leadership
•    Monitor KPIs related to technology spend, ROI, and total cost of ownership.

Key Characteristics
For this role you should be/have:
•    Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with significant post-qualification experience. 
•    Proven track record in managing finances for large-scale technology programmes (ERP, infrastructure, digital transformation). 
•    Strong commercial and financial modelling skills, including capital expenditure evaluation, scenario planning and risk assessment. 
•    Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, able to influence at senior levels. 
•    Deep understanding of technology cost drivers (licensing, infrastructure, cloud, vendor management). 
•    Experience in a large, complex, multi-site organisation.
