Position Overview 

Grinding is a key element in the cement manufacturing process. It is a huge cost centre in the cement plant. The role of the   Senior Grinding Expert will be to maximize efficiency and minimize costs. He / She will advise, challenge and assist all grinding process performance across the CRH cement plant portfolio. He / She will recommend operational and industrial process improvements to the Opco Plant management teams to improve efficiency, reduce cost, improve sustainability and maximize profitability.

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas
  • Develop guidelines and standards to drive best practice in all CRH grinding applications including cement, raw materials and solid fuels grinding.
  • Play a key role in terms of innovation in grinding technology such as roller presses, ball mills, vertical roller mills, booster mills and separate grinding concepts.
  • Support plant in terms of milling performance improvement (kWh/t, Milling Capacity) and troubleshooting
  • Develop best practices with CRH grinding community
  • Undertake benchmarking studies and grinding audits to identify both weak and successful practices
  • Monitor implementation of improvement initiatives and propose Process Improvement recommendations including Cost/Benefit Analysis
  • Share experiences between plants
  • Provide support to Energy & Quality Task Force by proposing new developments and recommendations for achieving objectives
  • Organise specific training for plants production/process staff on milling equipment such as ball mill, vertical mill, roller press, etc.
  • Put in place a system of mill audits and roll it out across all CRH plants
  • be the main point of contact with Grinding Equipment suppliers to achieve the most suitable technological solutions
  • support the engineering team in grinding CAPEX projects in terms of design & implementation
  • Lead Grinding Equipment commissioning and performance tests when necessary
  • Take part in Due Diligence activities when required

 

Key Functional Competencies and Relevant Experience

  • Bachelors/Honours degree or equivalent in Engineering (Mining, process, mechanical, chemistry).  A postgraduate qualification (Masters / Doctoral degree or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline would be a “nice to have”
  • Extensive experience in operating and providing technical support and process optimisation to heavy industrial comminution plants.
  • Candidate must have excellent understanding of cement production processes and a very good understanding of clinker chemistry and mineralogy
  • Solid background in milling and grinding process optimisation
  • Have experience in heavy industry plant commissioning role
  • Have work experience in a foreign country
  • Experience with process measurement tools and techniques is essential.
  • Good knowledge of modern information technology
  • Excellent English language skills
  • Willingness to travel abroad
  • Must be able to work under time constraints as required
