Job Description Summary

 

The Machinist is responsible for producing machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating machinery; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.

 

Essential Duties

 

  • Work independently in selecting tooling needs and required speeds for each set up

  • Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments

  • May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures

  • Ability to cross train and operate an Electrical Discharge Machine (EDM)

  • Ability to read a caliper, micrometer, tape measure & indicator

  • Check steel harness on Rockwell/Hardness Tester

  • Engage in team 5S projects

  • Ability to read blueprints

  • Run manual mills and lathes equipments 

  • Fabricate tool and dies

  • Run surface grinder

Requirements/Education/Experience

 

  • College or technical school education preferred, but not required

  • OSHA certifications a plus, but not required

  • Heat treat is a plus, but not required 

 

Physical Requirements

 

  • Lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Intermittent bending, lifting, stooping, reaching, walking, and squatting
  • Standing for long periods of time
