Position Overview

 

The Fuel & Lube Technician / CDL Class A Driver role is a skilled position supporting construction, aggregate, and materials operations. This dual-role position is responsible for fueling, lubricating, inspecting, and performing preventative maintenance on heavy construction equipment, including wheel loaders, dozers, excavators, skid steers, on-road trucks, and support vehicles. Duties also include the safe transport and delivery of materials to construction sites, plants, quarries, and other company locations.

 

Position requires working swing shift hours.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

Fuel & Lube Technician Responsibilities

  • Fuel, lubricate, and perform preventative maintenance on heavy equipment, fleet vehicles, and plant equipment.
  • Conduct inspections to identify leaks, wear, damage, and maintenance needs; report issues promptly.
  • Change oils, filters, and fluids, and maintain proper fuel, lubricant, coolant, and DEF levels.
  • Operate and maintain fuel/lube service trucks and related equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Complete accurate service, inspection, and fueling records.
  • Assist with minor repairs and support maintenance personnel as needed.
  • Respond to field service requests to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Maintain inventories of fuels, lubricants, filters, and maintenance supplies.
  • Follow all company safety, environmental, MSHA, OSHA, and DOT requirements, including spill prevention and proper waste handling.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas and perform other duties as assigned.

 

CDL Class A Driver Responsibilities

  • Thorough operational knowledge and skills of end dumps and/or belly dumps (with and without pups) and related equipment to be operated.
  • Can operate equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Must keep time and material records.
  • Must follow verbal and written instruction.
  • Knowledge of different types and sizes of aggregates.
  • Ability for maneuvering and backing with pup trailer.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively on the radio system.
  • Connect and disconnect pup trailer.

 

 

Qualifications

Education/Experience

 

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
  • Current HazMat, Tanker, Air Brake and Current Doubles/Triples endorsements preferred.
  • Valid DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (Medical Card) required and maintained.
  • Ability to meet and maintain all DOT driver qualification standards.
  • Experience operating commercial vehicles and heavy equipment in construction, aggregates, mining, transportation, or related industries preferred.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance, fuel systems, lubrication practices, and heavy equipment servicing preferred.
  • Ability to perform basic equipment inspections and complete service documentation accurately.
  • Strong commitment to safety, reliability, and customer service.

The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 50-75 lbs.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
