Position: Sustainability Coordinator (HSE - Health, Safety & Environment)

Reports to: Quality & Environmental Manager

 

Role Overview: Based at our site in Geldermalsen, the Netherlands, the successful candidate will drive, support, and advise on Sustainability issues in the areas of Sustainability and Environmental in a manufacturing business, and will establish, manage, enforce, and monitor standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with Sustainability & Environment across the facility are adhered to. The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Drive and support operations in ensuring all sustainability and environmental requirements are met.
  • Drive and develop carbon/CO2 management systems and certification, working closely with Filoform operations management.
  • Communicate and drive sustainability awareness and culture.
  • Coordinate, develop and implement carbon footprint / life cycle analysis (LCA) software system for relevant products in IPE.
  • Drive and develop new sustainability initiatives as part of group projects.
  • Ensure environmental legislative and compliance obligations are met through management of core EMS including waste management, licences, spill and emergency response management.
  • Review, modify and create, as required, Chemical management (SDS’s); in line with the CRH Life Saving Rules (LSR’s) and Dutch H&SE legislation. 
  • Review, modify, create, and enforce, as required, sustainability policy and procedures in line with ISO 14001 Environmental management and CRH sustainability goals.
  • Conduct thorough investigation of environmental related incidents and implement control measures. 
  • Work with the Group sustainability Team in the UK & Ireland to develop strategies and action plans. 
  • Work closely with the Group SHEQ Team to deliver and complete statutory notifications to the Environmental Authorities and all relevant reporting.
  • Conduct internal audits in line with ISO 14001 EMS.
  • Complete annual sustainability returns for Filoform.
  • Ensure sustainability training requirements are met and maintained.

Associated Responsibilities:

  • Monthly sustainability metrics/performance reporting data.
  • Organisation of relevant training as required.
  • Ensure that records of ISO and compliance requirements are kept for all relevant activities and plant equipment at all Filoform locations.
  • Group Best Practice meeting attendance and implementation.
  • All other duties as deemed necessary by the Quality & Environmental Manager.

Experience and Training:

  • Higher level education including English language is essential.
  • Knowledge and experience of Environmental/sustainability management systems is essential.
  • High level proficiency in the full MS Office suite.
  • Risk Assessment training is desirable.
  • ISO 14001 environmental management systems is desirable.
  • CO2 /carbon footprint management knowledge and experience desirable.
  • Internal auditing to ISO standards is desirable.
  • Annual sustainability reporting knowledge is desirable.

 

Essential Criteria:

  • Fluency in Dutch and English, both verbal and written communication is essential.
  • Candidate must have previous experience within a busy manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in the MS Office suite including Access.
  • Awareness of sustainability systems and operating procedures.
  • Ability and willingness to travel between CRH sites, as required on occasion.
