Position Summary
Texas Materials is seeking two experienced and safety-oriented Dozer Operators to join our construction team. The Dozer Operator is responsible for safely operating bulldozers and related heavy equipment to perform site preparation, grading, earthmoving, roadway construction, and land development activities. The successful candidate will support project operations by maintaining proper grades, ensuring quality workmanship, and adhering to all safety and environmental standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate bulldozers safely and efficiently in support of earthwork, grading, site development, roadway construction, and other heavy civil projects.
- Perform rough and finish grading according to project plans, specifications, and grade stakes.
- Push, spread, level, and move soil, aggregate, and other construction materials.
- Assist with land clearing, site preparation, embankment construction, and roadway development.
- Read and interpret construction plans, grade stakes, and directions from supervisors and grade shooters.
- Work closely with equipment operators, laborers, foremen, and project management to meet production goals.
- Identify and avoid underground utilities, overhead hazards, and other potential job site risks.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and complete required inspection reports.
- Monitor equipment performance and promptly report mechanical issues or maintenance needs.
- Maintain equipment cleanliness and perform routine preventative maintenance.
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental requirements.
- Assist with other construction-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating a dozer in construction, earthwork, road building, site development, or heavy civil projects preferred.
- Experience performing finish grading and working from survey stakes or GPS machine control systems is preferred.
- Experience operating additional heavy equipment is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of safe dozer operating procedures and heavy equipment practices.
- Ability to perform both rough and finish grading operations.
- Ability to understand and follow construction plans, grade stakes, and project specifications.
- Familiarity with GPS machine control systems is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and safety standards.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and teamwork.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit and operate heavy equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to climb on and off equipment safely throughout the workday.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to perform physical labor when necessary.
- Sufficient vision, hearing, depth perception, and coordination to safely operate equipment.
Working Conditions
- Outdoor construction and quarry environments.
- Exposure to dust, noise, vibration, moving equipment, and changing weather conditions.
- Work may involve uneven terrain, confined work areas, and active construction zones.
- Overtime, weekends, and travel to various project locations may be required based on business needs.
