<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating a variety of equipment for groundwork and construction purposes.  The career field for “Equipment Operator” includes, but may not be limited to, the following positions: Equipment Operator (Grade and Pave Crew), Heavy Equipment Operator, Roller Operator (Self-Propelled, Asphalt, Other than Asphalt), Motor Grader Operator (Rough Grade), Concrete Grinder/Milling Machine Operator, Backhoe Operator, Bobcat Operator, Bulldozer/Push Dozer Operator, Concrete Finishing Machine Operator, Asphalt Paver Machine Operator.

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Operate heavy equipment of various sizes and weights, safely and efficiently.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Follow direction of Foreman as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment; refer major problems to the supervisor. 
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Perform daily pre-and-post inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Assist in training less-experienced employees on the proper operations, servicing, and repair of equipment to further their abilities.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required. 
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Other duties as may be assigned.

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Education/Experience

  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">1-2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Work Requirements

  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, and Coveralls.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Knowledge in operating heavy equipment.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations and construction sites.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Knowledge of trenching and shoring standards.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Ability to read, write and do basic mathematical calculations in order to keep time and material records, and read blueprints or other project documents.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Ability to operate heavy and complex equipment requiring skill and the exercise of independent judgment.

  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock or burn.
