Job Summary

We are currently looking for Machine Operators to work in our Fabrication department for our glass manufacturing facility in the Park 100 area of Indianapolis, IN. This position involves the operation of a waterjet forvet machine used to drill and chamfer holes in glass panels or a vertical grinder to grind or polish glass edges. The Operator also tracks, locates, and records production on schedules provided by the Supervisor. Communicate production demands with operators on each shift. Second shift hours are typically Monday through Friday, 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm.  These positions may have daily or weekend overtime as dictated by the production schedule.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • On/off-loading of glass product from, tables, rolling racks, delivery trucks, or wood crates 
  • Utilize a tape measure to ensure product is within the product specifications 
  • Setting up a Forvet machine to drill holes, cutouts in glass panels according to work orders, fabrication sheets and schedules 
  • Operate a grinder to fabricate a quality ground or polished edge.
  • Read labels, sketches, system program, and be able to perform spatial visualization interpretation  
  • Calculate and measure for hole size and placement and inspecting work. 
  • Operate overhead crane and vacuum lift 
  • Perform routine maintenance on machines 
  • Complete daily work sheets and forms
  • Regular and predictable attendance including overtime is an essential function of the job.
  • The "team concept" instituted for shop floor production workers requires each worker to perform different functions on a rotating basis
  • Notify supervisor of any mechanical or material issues
  • Safely perform tasks and adherence to all safety policies and procedures 
  • All production workers are expected to be available to work in all areas of production  
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor


Skills, Knowledge, and Ability Requirements

To be considered for a Machine Operator position, the following conditions must be met:

  • Previous work experience in a manufacturing or production facility, required
  • Previous machine operation, grinding or fabrication experience highly desirable
  • Must be able to read and understand sketches and interpret their meaning onto glass edges.
  • Basic computer familiarity
  • Read and use a tape measure
  • Read and perform mathematical calculations and measurements with numbers, fractions, and decimals normally acquired through high school education or equivalency.
  • Read and write basic English based on position requirements.
  • Must be physically capable of routinely lifting up to 75 lbs. and product of greater weight with moving aids and/or support help throughout the day.
  • All production workers are expected to be available to work in all areas of production 
  • Be willing to work overtime as required
