Job Summary

 

Oldcastle Lawn & Garden has a decentralized business model that requires effective communication with multiple contacts and local business operations.  As part of the Leadership Team, the Procurement Manager leads, directs and manages the procurement of raw materials for our locations in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. In this role, the person works closely with the General Manager, Regional Managers, and Plant Managers to negotiate raw materials (including logs, bark, wood products and pallets).  Raw material purchases are in excess of $15 Million annually.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 

  • Manage current vendor relationships and seek and develop new vendor partners
  • Maintain in-stock positions
  • Meet or exceed Quality & Product specifications
  • Search for new vendors
  • Reduce costs through recommendations to General Manager/Regional Managers
  • Research alternative material solutions to traditional materials
  • Be highly responsive to unexpected and unplanned events
  • Drive the Annual Planning & Forecasting process
  • Create Key Performance Indicators for Procurement process

 

Requirements / Education / Experience
 

  • Minimum of 5 year’s management and purchasing experience
  • Thorough knowledge of wood industry and flow of material
  • Experience in understanding the network of mills geographically
  • An ability to negotiate and a proven track record of success
  • Well established industry relationships
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, diplomatically and maintain relationships as they change over time
  • Ability to thrive and adapt in a fast paced, stressful, dynamic and changing work environment
  • An ability to work on forecasting & replenishment in a collaborative, fact based manner
  • Ability to travel up to 75% across NC, SC, and GA
