Oldcastle Building Envelope has an exciting opportunity for an Automation Engineering Tech to join the team at our Midway facility. We are looking for a motivated, hands-on leader who wants the opportunity to make a positive impact on the operation and improve reliability throughout the plant.

Basic Function:  The Automation Engineering Tech is responsible for evaluating existing Processes and configuring manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability and develop best practices; under the direction of the “Automation Engineering”. The major emphasis in the position is to support the processes and team in any way possible. The attitude, “That is not my job” doesn’t exist!

•    Highly skilled with Allen Bradley PLC and HMI programming and troubleshooting, all platforms are a MUST. Experience with other PLC platforms, SCADA, and HMI applications, as well, is preferred.
•    Be Highly skilled with Fanuc Robotics - design, implementation and debugging through real world application and Roboguide Simulation is a must. 
•    Computer skills – Be highly skilled with electrical CAD, MS Office, VBA, C++, and VMware Workstation. Familiarity with programming script languages including Java and VBScript and server-based OS – their related functions & application.
•    Have At least 2 years of experience with IT (Networking, Control Ethernet IP Devices).
•    Must have extensive experience with motion control systems, motion controllers, VFDs, servo drives.
•    Have strong experience with equipment reliability / computerized maintenance management software to drive world class up-time through preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, and targeted engineering change.
•    Design automated tests to validate applications by creating scripts that run testing functions automatically.
•    Be an organized, self-starter with the ability to handle numerous projects, prioritize workload and work with minimal supervision.
•    Must be able to communicate effectively and conduct themselves professionally, excellent written and verbal communication skills
•    Candidate can think outside the box – innovative in daily responsibilities as well as project work.
•    Can Safely perform tasks and adherence to all safety policies and procedures are essential functions of this job.
•    Candidate must be located within commuting distance of Midway, TN. 
•    Analyze bug reports and highlight problems to help identify fixes for them. They deliver regular reports identifying these bugs to other members of the engineering team.
•    Collaborate with other members of the engineering team to find the best methods for solving problems.
•    Identifying software application weaknesses and target areas.
•    Sketching out ideas for automated software test procedures.
•    Troubleshooting automation software and finalizing system procedures.
•    Identifying quality issues and creating test reports.
•    Advanced programming skills including automation systems, PC and databases, regarding the IEC61131 standard.
•    Excellent analytical skills and project management skills.
•    Good written and verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail.

•    Computers and Electronics -- Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
•    Engineering and Technology -- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
•     English Language -- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
•    Design -- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
•    Mathematics -- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
•     Production and Processing -- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
•     Safety and Security -- Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.


Responsibilities:  An Electrical Engineering Technician (EET) will apply electrical theory and related knowledge to test and modify developmental or operational electrical machinery and electrical control equipment and circuitry in an industrial setting. Work under direction of Automation Engineer for project management and skill development.

•    The Automation Engineering Tech is the front-end link between Engineering, production, and maintenance. This person will drive automation change, process improvement, plant improvement and training, troubleshooting, and establishing best practice.  
•    The Automation Engineering Tech will provide support to management, maintenance, and production in day-to-day operations through troubleshooting equipment, quality, projects, training, and safety departmental concerns.
•    The Automation Engineering Tech will review existing Processes, make recommendations to improve Automation flow and implement Automation improvement applying GMP.
•    The Automation Engineering Tech assist engineering and maintenance, on projects involving Automation control, hydraulics, pneumatics, programmable controllers, compressors, and construction
•    Provide technical support for machines and equipment as needed.
•    Provide technical assistance and resolution when electrical or engineering problems are encountered.
•     Assemble electrical and electronic systems and prototypes according to engineering data and knowledge of electrical principles.
•     Install and maintain electrical control systems.
•     Modify electrical prototypes, parts, assemblies, and systems to correct functional deviations.
•     Set up and operate test equipment to evaluate performance of developmental parts, assemblies, or systems under simulated operating conditions, and record results.
•    Collaborate with electrical engineers and other personnel to identify, define, and solve developmental problems.
•    Ownership of respected department. This person will drive success in their department in several ways. Through teamwork and self-motivation, he or she will support management in driving training, electrical projects and upgrades, all aspects of electrical   

      maintenance, continuous improvement, and the operation of management systems.

•    Equipment Maintenance -- Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.



•    The Engineering Technician will be responsible for completing course work provided by engineering within one year; to maintain their status and advance to the next level. This course work has been outlined in the job description based on levels 1, 2 and 3.
•    The Engineering Technician will be required to attend on/off site trainings and seminars, deemed necessary by management. He or she will be required to pass any testing associated with these functions as well as apply them to the continuous improvement of a       

•    Testing in each subject will be provided and must be passed with at least a 75% to receive credit for that subject. Training in each subject will be provided on and/or off site; pertaining to each subject.

•    Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or minimum 10 years of, verifiable, experience in the required qualifications of this position.
