Position Overview:

Reporting to the Electrical Maintenance Manager is responsible for providing overview of all electrical operations, systems including automation and power for primarily a Cement Manufacturing Plant. Responsibilities will be conducted in accordance with company policies and legislation and standards; interfacing with other functional groups to maintain safe and efficient facilities and processes.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions):

  • Lead electrical safety improvement projects and initiatives.
  • Develop best practice preventive and predictive maintenance schedules for electrical infrastructure.
  • Lead and assist with fault finding and implement modifications to solve technical issues or improve the plant.
  • To design, plan and implement electrical projects, in collaboration with senior management /company objectives.
  • To survey existing electrical equipment with the aim of developing new projects for Capital Expenditure.
  • Design, implement and manage schemes for performance enhancement and energy efficiency to reduce electrical energy costs.
  • Provide technical overview of electrical assets to ensure that safety and production needs are met across all businesses.
  • Undertake project work on electrical and control/instrumentation systems within cost and time requirements on new and/or existing plants with Management.
  • Assist Unit Managers with technical assessment of the recruitment of electricians to ensure that electrical staff has the required levels of competence.   
  • Provide an oversight of electrical matters and provide guidance on OH&S, changes to legislation and technical matters to Company Executives, Regional, Area and Site Managers, the Director OH&S and OH&S Staff.
  • Monitor and review arrangements for electrical safety.
  • Design, amend and implement company standards, policies and procedures relating to electrical safety and engineering.
  • Assess and review the competence of employees, sub-contractors/third party workers dealing with electrical systems and give advice on authorizations of persons.
  • Advise the Site Manager on the authorization of relevant company employees, sub-contractors/third party workers.
  • As required assist with incident investigations.
  • Advise on the management of high voltage systems.
  • Carry out audits of the condition of the electrical systems.
  • Audit the results of inspection and testing and of actions necessary to remedy any reported deficiencies and defects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience

  • University Degree with discipline in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of work experience is preferred
  • P.Eng is preferable
  • Experience in heavy manufacturing industry is preferred (cement, steel, mining)

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Safety oriented and sound knowledge of OH&S policies, procedures and regulations
  • Computer literate for all MS Office (incl. MS Project) and AutoCAD software
