Position Overview

The Grade Foreperson is a Field Supervisor responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a specific grade crew.  This position will primarily perform supervisory duties, but on rare occasions may assist with general laborer and equipment operation tasks as needed.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Coordinates daily work activities, job site organization, reading of plans, etc.
  • Supervises and schedules work crews.  
  • Organizes job site goals, timelines, and budgets.
  • Orders required supplies and materials.
  • Must have basic knowledge of Treasure Valley/surrounding area, and ability to drive to job site locations.
  • Assists with general laborer duties as needed, which may include shoveling, installing pipes, and other tasks as required.
  • Assists with heavy equipment operation, if trained, as needed at job site locations.
  • Performs equipment inspections, and is required to identify wear items for replacement or service.
  • Maintaining timecard and materials records necessary to complete daily job costing.
  • May be subject to drug testing, medical exams and physical agilities testing.

Education/Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred, and a minimum of 5 years in civil construction, or similar experience with subgrade/gravel placement, compaction and inspections.

 

 

Work Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, including specifications. 
  • Ability to effectively present information in one on one, and small group situations to customers, clients, inspectors, subcontractors and any other employee on West Division Oldcastle Material Group Property.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measure, compute rate, ration, percent, land to draw and graph interpretation as needed for grade setting, and checking.
  • Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions, specifically with transportation requirements, and gravel placement.
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to type and use keyboards accurately and have knowledge of Database software for notes, and timecard submission, etc.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Standard Driver’s License required. Class A CDL preferred

GRIP - with at least 75 lbs. of force                  

CLIMBING - in, around, and on equipment                  

HEAVY LIFTING - of extremely awkward parts and equipment up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist

AWKWARD POSITIONS – getting to and from both sitting and kneeling on the ground

FLEXIBILITY- awkward reaches                    

BALANCE – including standing and walking on extremely slick and uneven surfaces while carrying.     

VISION- 20/40 corrected vision to see moving safety hazards, moving equipment, vehicles, and obstructions

HEARING – corrected to hear verbal safety warnings and instructions from coworkers
