POSITION OVERVIEW

 

Tilcon Connecticut seeks motivated Engineering Interns to support aggregate operations. This internship is designed for current college students pursuing degrees in mining, geological, or civil engineering. Interns will collaborate with leadership and learn to monitor, gather, analyze, and communicate operations data, assisting management at new and existing mine sites to minimize risk and optimize productivity and asset yield in aggregate operations. The intern will work in a team environment alongside Tilcon Connecticut employees, co-workers, and management to coordinate, support, and actively promote safety processes. Internship reporting will be to the site superintendent, and all company safety requirements and functions apply.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

Interns must be able to perform the following functions under mentorship and with supervision:

  • Collect and analyze site data and maintain accurate records.
  • Monitor production and assist with budgeting and reporting.
  • Provide supervising staff with data to inform operational decisions.
  • Learn to assess extraction risks and apply specialist software.
  • Monitor, analyze, and interpret mine operation data.
  • Assist with management of construction projects.
  • Support compliance with health and safety requirements.
  • Identify practices to promote accident prevention.
  • Operate and help maintain field data gathering equipment.
  • Coordinate with contractors and consultants.
  • Assist management with installation, planning, and extraction systems.
  • Recommend methods to improve production, equipment performance, product quality, and crew productivity.
  • Comply with all company and safety policies and procedures.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Perform daily pre- and post-inspections, documenting per company policy.
  • Display a professional and courteous manner toward co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
  • Arrive at designated, varied start times and adhere to shift requirements.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Follow safety procedures and wear PPE in designated areas.
  • Work as part of a team and assist others as required.
  • Lead by example in safety and compliance per OSHA / MSHA.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed for operational success.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education/Experience

  • Current enrollment in a bachelor’s program in geology, mining engineering, mineral or quarry engineering, civil engineering, or related field required.
  • Coursework or prior internship in a quarry or aggregate environment preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with MSHA regulations a plus.
  • Ability to operate safely and efficiently; willingness to learn team coordination and direction skills.
