Position Overview

Tilcon Connecticut has an opening for an experienced Haul Truck Driver at our New Britain Quarry. This position is responsible for operating haul trucks and supporting quarry operations in a safe and efficient manner.

The selected candidate will work in a team environment alongside coworkers and supervisors. At Tilcon Connecticut, our core values are safety, quality, and integrity, and all employees are expected to actively support and promote our safety culture.

This position reports directly to the Quarry Superintendent and requires compliance with all safety policies, including MSHA regulations, and active participation in quarry operations.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Safely and efficiently operate haul trucks
  • Report equipment issues to management in a timely manner.
  • Perform minor servicing and maintenance on quarry and plant equipment.
  • Use ladders, platforms, and elevated work areas as needed.
  • Maintain constant communication with coworkers when working in close proximity, including:
    • Eye contact when backing
    • Use of hand signals and other communication methods
  • Perform daily pre- and post-operation inspections and complete required documentation.
  • Follow direction of foreperson/supervisor regarding daily assignments and production goals.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
  • Work overtime and flexible hours as required by business needs.
  • Work outdoors in varying and extreme weather conditions.
  • Strictly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA safety regulations.
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Assist team members and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform all essential duties satisfactorily.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of construction experience required.
  • Experience operating:
    • Dump trucks
    • Haul trucks
    • Aggregate hauling equipment (quarry environment preferred)

Work Requirements

  • Valid CDL Class A driver’s license required.
  • Must pass:
    • Pre-employment drug screening
    • Criminal background check
    • “Fit for Work” physical
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to company policies.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work varying schedules based on operational needs.

  • Close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception
  • Ability to adjust focus

Work Environment

  • Work is performed primarily in a quarry environment.
  • Frequent exposure to:
    • Moving mechanical equipment
    • Noise and vibration
    • Outdoor conditions (heat and cold)
  • Occasional exposure to:
    • Wet or humid conditions
    • High heat

Environmental Conditions

  • Continuous: Exposure to noise, moving equipment
  • Frequent: Hot weather, cold weather, working with others
  • Occasional: Wet weather, high heat
