Position Overview
Position Start: May 2026
Location: Ogden, Utah (with travel to regional sites)
Duration: August or for schooling, full-time (Monday–Friday)
This temporary internship supports Regional Safety Professionals in identifying hazards, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting a safe work environment. The selected candidate will gain hands-on experience in industrial hygiene, safety audits, and regulatory compliance, while developing professional skills in a dynamic construction and materials environment.
Responsibilities
- Support daily operations of the Mountain West Region Safety Department.
- Participate in internal safety audits and inspections across multiple lines of business.
- Conduct industrial hygiene sampling for exposures such as noise and silica.
- Coordinate with operations supervisors to schedule sampling dates for all active regional mine locations.
- Take detailed notes during sampling to help identify potential causes in the event of overexposure.
- Ensure proper handling of samples, including chain-of-custody documentation, interaction with the laboratory, and analysis against regulatory standards (e.g., MSHA PELs).
- Notify sampled employees, safety personnel, and management of sampling results.
- Create noise maps for plants as requested.
- Prepare weekly reports for Safety Team meetings.
- Present a summary of sampling statistics to senior management at the end of the internship.
- Promote a strong safety culture by complying with safety procedures and wearing all required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, safety vest, and safety-toed boots).
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or graduated from a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
- Industrial Hygiene experience preferred; completion of qualifying university courses is acceptable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Detail-oriented, well-organized, and possesses excellent follow-up skills.
- Self-motivated, able to multitask, and work independently.
- Ability to read and interpret corporate policy and government regulations from OSHA and MSHA.
- Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and climb stairs and ladders in a construction or plant environment.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have reliable personal transportation. Use of a personal vehicle is required for travel between job sites; mileage will be reimbursed at the current IRS rate.
- Willingness to travel and stay overnight as needed for sampling and inspections. Company will reimburse reasonable travel expenses, including lodging and meals, in accordance with company policy. Expense reimbursements are processed monthly.
- Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.
