Position Summary
Texas Materials is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Tack Truck Driver to operate and maintain a tack truck used in asphalt paving operations. The Tack Truck Driver is responsible for applying asphalt emulsion (tack coat) to road surfaces prior to paving, ensuring proper adhesion between asphalt layers. This position plays a critical role in delivering high-quality paving projects while maintaining compliance with all safety, environmental, and company policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely operate a tack truck to apply asphalt emulsion on roadways, parking lots, and other paving surfaces.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete required vehicle inspection reports.
- Monitor spray rates and application patterns to ensure proper tack coat coverage according to project specifications.
- Coordinate with paving crews, equipment operators, and supervisors to support daily operations.
- Safely load, transport, and unload asphalt emulsion materials.
- Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on tack truck equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness of truck, spray bars, nozzles, and associated equipment.
- Follow all DOT regulations, company policies, and local, state, and federal safety requirements.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and crew members regarding jobsite conditions and production needs.
- Assist with other construction and labor duties as needed when trucking operations are not required.
- Adhere to Texas Materials' safety culture and participate in safety meetings and training programs.
- Report equipment defects, accidents, incidents, and unsafe conditions immediately.
Qualifications
Required
- Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A or B, with appropriate endorsements.
- Clean driving record and ability to meet company motor vehicle requirements.
- Knowledge of commercial vehicle operation and safety procedures.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and overtime as required.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around construction equipment.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and teamwork.
Preferred
- Previous tack truck experience.
- Experience in asphalt paving, road construction, or related heavy construction activities.
- Basic mechanical knowledge of trucks and paving equipment.
- OSHA 10 certification or other relevant safety training.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb in and out of truck cabs and onto equipment safely.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work for extended periods outdoors in hot, cold, wet, or dusty conditions.
- Ability to maintain alertness and focus while operating vehicles and equipment.
Work Environment
- Outdoor construction and roadway environments.
- Exposure to moving machinery, traffic, asphalt products, fuel, dust, noise, vibration, and varying weather conditions.
- May require travel to various project sites throughout the assigned operating area.
