Position Overview

Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily activities in a shop. This includes but is not limited to technician scheduling and effectiveness, repair procedures, technical advice/guidance and overall fleet condition.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Ensure employee driven safety culture is in place and effective.
    • This should include participation and engagement with all OMG/Division safety, environment and health policies, procedures and audits.
    • Will also include continual improvement towards Gold Class shop facility standards.
  • Implement, manage and maintain effective scheduling process (visual board) to ensure overall preventative maintenance program is in place.
    • Technician effectiveness scheduled, tracked and managed thru visual management, activity sampling and thorough time scheduled vs time shift schedule comparison.
    • Shift schedule management based on production needs and efficiency in place.
    • Daily T5/Performance meetings held with technicians based on tracked metrics of productivity, quality and safety.
    • Ensure all work requests or deficiencies identified through DVIR’s are scheduled through CMMS and assigned to technician or vendor for repair.
  • Define, implement and utilize current Work Order process with full utilization of CMMS and operational Work Requests in order to effectively manage and track all equipment repairs.
    • This should include full utilization of PM System, work orders and scheduling with technician name, estimated time and scheduled date updated daily.
  • Implement and ensure effectiveness of repair processes.
    • PM/Lube process (CMMS) in place to ensure timely maintenance on fleet.
    • Annual inspection process to ensure scheduled maintenance to reduce downtime.
    • Maintain Federal, State and local compliance with all DOT laws and regulations including annual DOT inspections
    • Track, manage and reduce all re-active repairs on break downs, door calls and service calls.
    •  Oversee VCR/VIR process to ensure effective inspections are being performed daily and repairs completed.
    • Communicate with local vendors to ensure effective and timely outsourced repairs.
  • Implement and ensure 5S culture is driven throughout all technicians.
    • Direct focus on complete 5S process should be evident and sustained throughout facilities.
  • Continually communicate and foster open dialogue with operational groups
    • Take place in and provide agenda driven information during necessary operational meetings and communications.

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma required with a minimum of 2 years of shop experience required.
  • Experience working with electronic equipment management systems preferred.
  • Experience in heavy equipment and on-highway trucks preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, Class A CDL preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear.  The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to handle, or feel.  The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move from 10 to 100 lbs.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception
