Responsible for:

 Promoting SHEQ understanding and building relationships with our employees and contractors at all levels, out on site, to ensure compliance across Hydro businesses, through conducting daily site inspections.

Ability to work away from home on site with regular driving and overnight stays throughout the UK.

 

Competence & Qualifications:

 

  • NEBOSH General/Construction Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Health and Safety experience, preferably within the water, utilities or a similar environment. This should include a firm understanding of the risks associated within these industries. 

 

Desirable

  • NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate or IEMA Environmental or equivalent.
  • Understanding of Environment and Energy laws.
  • Experience of ISO 45001, 9001, 14001 and 50001.
  • Quality auditing.
  • Energy management.
  • EUSR

 

Skills & Attributes:

 

Work activity will be predominantly at various locations and is a ‘Boots on the Ground’ on site at least 3-4 times a week, appropriate experience of this type of work is therefore essential. The candidate should have excellent communication, and persuading skills, combined with enthusiasm, ambition and passion to build positive SHEQ behaviours, together with the drive to motivate others, proactively, to a positive health and safety culture out on site, please apply.

It is also pivotal that the candidate has skills that encourage colleague engagement, awareness, and commitment to SHEQ, and to change behaviours (influencer). The role is very much dependent on collaborative working with others, so a team player is essential, as well as being solution orientated.

This role is not office based. The applicant will work remotely, be home based and be responsible for booking their own daily site visits, with various teams around the UK. The candidate will write reports and conduct admin work at least one day a week from their home base and will be required, from time to time, to attend team and business meetings face to face, at our premises around the UK).

 

The candidate should have working knowledge on the implementation of Health and Safety laws, as well as exposure to ISO standards and auditing (ISO 45001, 9001, 14001 etc), knowledge of incident investigation techniques and experience of delivering inductions, behavioural safety programmes and in house training initiatives.

The candidate should be proficient in Microsoft office, with the ability to prepare Excel spreadsheets, reports in Word and presentations in Powerpoint and expect to cover other SHEQ roles during peak times and periods of absence. 

 

 

Key Duties:

 

  1. To perform duties in accordance with all applicable health and safety legislation, ensuring compliance.
  2. Core duty – Boots on the Ground’ – Conduct daily SHEQ site inspections within the UK, ensuring adherence to established procedures, legislation. Identifying areas for improvement, whilst driving and actively promoting a positive and proactive safety culture across the organisation, though engaging, building relationships, advising, supporting, and mentoring the workforce. To be solution orientated and monitor the implementation of control measures identified on site and within our premises.
  3. Be prepared to work in confined spaces and to work at height, as well as to travel to remote place to be with our employees out on site.
  4. Support and mentor management and their teams out on site with their SHEQ compliance. Such as supporting them with their RAMS, safe systems of work, CDM, work activities etc.
  5. Advise, support, and nurture our Safety Representatives and Green Champions. Lead them to greater achievements with SHEQ.
  6. Deliver and manage the SHEQ and Energy induction, other training programmes, including customers inductions.
  7. Work collaboratively with the SHEQ Manager and the wider management teams to manage the company’s SHEQ ISO’s. Provide cover for the SHEQ Manager and the other SHEQ Advisor, during their absences.
  8. Facilitate external auditors with site visits, auditing, and the gathering of information, when required.
  9. Promote best practice in SHEQ and Energy matters.
  10. Investigate, report on and record near misses, incidents and be part of the incident investigation team. Ensure the business’s reporting software is completed and extract data as required.
  11. Monitor the Non-Conformance Quality register.
  12. Work collaboratively with administration teams ensuring first aid and fire safety compliance.
  13. Create and organise SHEQ and Energy awareness events, workshops, training, campaigns.
  14. As and when directed by the SHEQ Manager, organise purposeful and engaging SHEQ forums, workshops, meetings and when required, attend scheduled meetings.
  15. Maintain a working knowledge of relevant legislation and any developments that may affect the industry.
  16. When requested by the SHEQ Manager, write, review, and analyse reports and metrics.
  17. Keep accurate records, input data for statistical analysis and reporting. Manage and maintain certain databases.
  18. Attend training as and when required.
  19. To perform duties in accordance with all legislation, in particular the Health and Safety at Work Act and apply the requirements of ISO 45001.
  20. To apply the requirements of BS EN ISO 9001, ISO 50001 and 14001 as appropriate within the areas of responsibility.
  21. Other duties which the company may require the individual to undertake.
