Position Overview

Operates and maintains functions of an aggregate plant.  Plant Forepersons generally perform their duties during a daytime shift, 5-6 days per week, 8-12 hours per day, or as required. Duties are performed under limited supervision. 

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Coordinate aggregate plant activity.  Communicate daily with Plant Manager and/or Area Manager to determine workload and to facilitate scheduling of production and maintenance.
  • Utilize computer programs for plant production and maintenance reporting, payroll, purchasing requests, and mobile equipment maintenance.
  • Complete and organize necessary paperwork to effectively manage plant production, maintenance, staffing, and safety.
  • Inspect and perform maintenance on plant parts, including: crushers, screens, conveying systems, and pumps.
  • Supervise and direct other plant personnel and general interaction with other managers and staff.
  • Identify and resolve regulatory, safety, personnel, and production problems, either directly or indirectly, in a timely and effective manner.
  • Study and follow all applicable regulations affecting aggregate plant production, safety environmental, state, federal, and company policies; ensure observance of such regulations; and ensure compliance with all regulations and permit conditions.
  • Ensure that the workplace is kept in a neat, clean, tidy and safe condition.  This includes the plant, office, storage areas, and yard.
  • Perform tasks related to storage, inspection, handling, transportation, clean-up of hazardous materials and hazardous wastes according to regulations as required.
  • Ability to detect safety hazards and malfunctions and respond accordingly.
  • Perform welding and fabrication duties as required.
  • Ability to operate front end loaders, skid steers, and articulating and rigid frame haul trucks.
  • Adhere to any and all state and federal regulations, if applicable, as set forth by the US Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA),
  • Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), or any other regulatory agency.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Must be willing to work weekends when necessary.
  • Report to the site and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Environmental, Health & Safety Manual.
  • Strict adherence to Dolomite and CRH policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assist with Interviewing and hiring process as necessary.
  • Planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Willingness to develop subordinates’ technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate.
  • Effective management of employee performance through coaching, feedback (written and verbal), rewards, and discipline when necessary.
  • Appraising performance, including annual evaluations and new employee 60-day evaluations.
  • Addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely manner.
  • Lead by example.
  • Ability to get work done through others using effective delegation, scheduling, and time management practices.

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six to twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

General Requirements

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and dependable transportation to and from the facility. 

    

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Must possess and have working knowledge to complete necessary mathematical calculations.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to use a computer to communicate and analyze data.  This includes but is not limited to the use of Outlook, MS Office programs, and web-based programs.

The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
