CRH's Americas Materials business is the leading provider of building materials in North America. The aggregates, asphalt, ready mixed concrete, paving and construction services we deliver are critical to building our world. Our operations span 45 U.S. states and two Canadian provinces with over 30,000 employees across 1,700 operating locations.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced SAP FI/CO Architect to support the Record to Report (R2R) process landscape, with a primary focus on Finance (FI)/Banking and a working knowledge of Controlling (CO) and Financial Reporting. The ideal candidate is a hands-on functional expert who can design, configure, and support core FI processes including accounts payable, month-end close, asset accounting, banking, and cash application, while also understanding how FI integrates with Controlling processes such as product costing, inventory valuation, Material Ledger, and CO-PA. The candidate should bring hands-on experience integrating SAP FI with upstream and downstream modules (MM, SD) and with external banking and tax systems. This is a business-facing, hands-on role: the successful candidate will work directly with business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable SAP solutions, participate in design workshops, and support configuration and testing across the record-to-report value chain. This role partners closely with the SAP Manager – R2R and senior functional leads, contributing hands-on design and configuration expertise rather than people-management responsibilities, while helping ensure an accurate, well-controlled, and continuously improving financial close and reporting process.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Business Process Design & Support
• Serve as a hands-on functional resource for R2R, partnering with business leads in Finance, Controlling, and FP&A.
• Translate business requirements into functional specifications and configure scalable, efficient FI processes.
• Support KPI and process performance tracking in partnership with business owners.
• Contribute to the standing business process governance forum, surfacing issues and supporting backlog prioritization.
Supporting Design Workshops & Business Engagement
• Support workshop planning and delivery, helping define objectives, agendas, and documented next steps.
• Participate in requirements-gathering and process design workshops across Finance, Controlling, and FP&A.
• Support fit-gap and solution design sessions, providing hands-on configuration input and recommendations.
• Use process maps and visual documentation to help stakeholders validate proposed designs.
Finance (FI)/Banking
• Configure and support the end-to-end SAP FI process, including accounts payable, month-end close, asset accounting, and banking.
• Support leasing accounting and administration, including integration with Costar for lease data management.
• Support banking process design, including bank statement processing, payment processing, and reconciliation.
• Support the cash application process, helping ensure incoming payments are matched and posted accurately and timely.
Controlling (CO) – Suporting Role
• Maintain working knowledge of the Controlling process landscape (Product Costing, Inventory Evaluation, Material Ledger, CO-PA) to support FI/CO integration points.
• Support accurate integration between CO and FI so that cost, inventory, and profitability data remain consistent end-to-end.
• Escalate complex CO configuration or design needs to senior CO functional resources or the SAP Manager – R2R.
Financial Reporting & FP&A
• Support SAP-enabled FP&A, corporate reporting, and management reporting processes.
• Assist FP&A and Corporate Accounting with budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring SAP data supports accurate planning cycles.
• Support standardization of corporate and management reporting packages, including variance analysis.
• Help ensure financial reporting outputs comply with corporate accounting policy, SOX, and audit requirements.
Sytems Integration
• Support integration of SAP with banking platforms, payment gateways, and tax engines, resolving interface and mapping issues with technical teams and vendors.
• Monitor integration reliability and support error handling across the R2R interface landscape.
Project & Change Support
• Support SAP R2R enhancement projects, upgrades, and rollouts, including requirements gathering, configuration, testing, and deployment.
• Document business processes, configuration, and support procedures.
• Adhere to change management, testing, and release governance standards.
• Support audits and compliance/internal control reviews across R2R processes.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of overall SAP experience, with a strong hands-on functional track record (individual contributor/architect level).
• Strong hands-on functional experience across SAP FI, including accounts payable, month-end close, asset accounting, and banking/cash application.
• Working knowledge of SAP CO concepts (Product Costing, Inventory Evaluation, Material Ledger, CO-PA) sufficient to support FI/CO integration.
• Experience integrating SAP FI with MM, SD, and Treasury, along with external banking and tax engine platforms.
• Experience supporting FP&A, corporate reporting, management reporting, and budgeting/forecasting cycles.
• Experience with lease accounting and lease administration tools such as Costar.
• Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with SAP S/4HANA and the Universal Journal.
• SAP certification(s) in FI or related modules.
• Exposure to Material Ledger and Actual Costing concepts.
• Familiarity with Costar or similar lease accounting/administration platforms.
• Experience with middleware/integration tooling (e.g., SAP PI/PO, SAP CPI, or third-party iPaaS) supporting FI integrations.
• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum delivery environment.
• Prior experience in a shared services or global SAP Center of Excellence (COE) model.
Key Competencies
• Process-oriented thinking with strong attention to detail and financial accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent configuration/design tasks across functional areas.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration across IT, Finance, Controllership, and FP&A.
• Clear, effective communication with both business and technical stakeholders.
• Self-directed, hands-on problem-solving capability.
