Position Overview

RiverBend Materials and its industry partners have realized a need for qualified aggregate truck drivers.  The program will focus on training for our company’s needs, with the expectations of hiring and retaining qualified drivers within our community.  The idea of this program is to provide an opportunity for unskilled workers – to give them chance to gain knowledge, experience and the licensing they need to advance into a livable wage job within our industry. 

  • The program is 3-4 weeks in length with training conducted by Professional Driver Trainers/Certified Driver Instructors at an agreed upon location.
  • The goal is to have each trainee prepared to pass the final driving test, held at the end of the 3rd week from a state certified Driver Tester.
  • Upon program completion and acquisition of an Oregon Class A CDL License, trainee will move to a full-time, regular driver position.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions):

 

  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspection of vehicle to ensure safe operational order and report maintenance or repair issues.
  • Be able to climb in and out of truck safely using 3-points of contact.
  • Be able to manipulate truck steering wheel (power steering), shifter and other various levers and knobs necessary for operation of truck and associated equipment.
  • Operate truck to deliver to construction sites, as specified, in a safe and efficient manner, obeying applicable laws and following dispatch instructions.
  • Attach Mixer truck chutes to truck and add materials (fiber, color or other additives) to drum.
  • Attach hoses to truck with clamping system. Open valves to discharge contents of tank.
  • Ensure quality of product delivered
  • Maintain communication with Dispatcher as necessary regarding deliveries.
  • Check delivery tickets for special instructions and complete as required.
  • Ensure proper materials are loaded in a safe manner, and obtain proper signatures as required.
  • Respond to customer questions related to basic product knowledge and basic construction techniques.
  • Maintain operator logs, forms and records in accordance with company policy and Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Maintain work area and vehicle in a clean and orderly condition.
  • May operate front end loader or other equipment
  • May perform other related duties as required or directed

Qualifications:

Prerequisites of applicants:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Current Oregon Class A CDL permit OR ability to obtain permit prior to start date 
  • Current DOT medical card – Physical Assessment Screening OR ability to obtain one prior to start date
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Ability to pass a pre-work screen physical
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

 

Job Requirements post training program:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Class A CDL with self-certification of non-excepted interstate and current DOT medical card
  • Ability to work irregular hours, off hours and weekends as necessary
  • Regular, on-time attendance is an essential function of this job
