Job Summary

Responsible for plant care and maintenance within a greenhouse environment, retail by assisting customers with plant selection and providing gardening advice, stocking shelves, and overall ensuring a positive retail experience, primarily during peak gardening seasons, often requiring physical labor and adaptability to changing weather conditions. 

Job Responsibilities

• Acquire and retain knowledge of plant material and use within a landscape or garden
• Maintain plants and production including but not limited to: Transplanting, pruning/cutting back, relocating, organizing, and watering crops
• Monitor for pests and diseases, taking necessary control measures
• Assist in restocking retail greenhouses from our growing greenhouses
• Accept responsibility for all work performed and take appropriate corrective action as needed
• Ability to be cross trained in multiple areas of the greenhouse business to accommodate seasonal demands
• Assist customers with plant selection based on their needs and gardening experience 
• Provide information about plant care and maintenance 
• Answer customer questions about plant identification and availability 
• Help customers load plants into their vehicles 
• Stock shelves with plants and gardening supplies 
• Price and label merchandise 
• Maintain clean and organized displays 
• Operate the cash register and process sales 
• Lift and move heavy plants and materials 
• Clean and maintain greenhouse equipment 
• Prepare outdoor planting areas 

Job Requirements

• Previous production experience preferred
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
• Ability to follow company production and safety procedures
• Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers
• Able to pass internal certification training
• Ability to print and speak simple sentences
• Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide 10’s and 100’s
• Must be able to demonstrate lock out tag out procedures
• Must keep key lock with self at all times
• Must attend weekly safety meetings
• Physical requirements include lifting up to 65 lbs., extended standing, walking, sitting, bending, climbing, working inside and outside, and use of fall protection equipment

• Able to perform job tasks in sometimes dusty, hot and/or cold working conditions
