Summary

The Heavy Equipment Technician is responsible for the safe, efficient diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of mobile heavy equipment used in quarry operations. This includes bulldozers, loaders, haul trucks, excavators, and other machinery. The role involves performing mechanical and electronic diagnostics, retrieving and interpreting fault codes, and completing repairs with minimal supervision.

Compensation and Company Benefits

• $27.00 to $32.00 per hour

Responsibilities

• Inspect, troubleshoot, and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues on heavy equipment
• Operate machinery as needed to identify defects or verify repairs
• Use computerized diagnostic tools and calibration equipment to retrieve and interpret fault codes
• Dismantle, repair, and reassemble components using appropriate tools and procedures
• Examine parts for wear or damage using micrometers, gauges, and other precision tools
• Perform routine preventive maintenance, including oil and filter changes, lubrication, battery checks, and fluid sampling
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

• Technical schooling in heavy equipment, diesel, truck, or automotive repair or equivalent hands-on mechanical experience 
• Ability to safely operate and maneuver heavy equipment during inspections and testing
• Basic proficiency with computer-based diagnostic tools
• Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn advanced diagnostic techniques

Physical Requirements

• Frequently crawl, kneel, bend, and reach overhead
• Occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs
• Climb vertical ladders to access equipment
• The work environment includes exposure to: Outdoor weather conditions, fumes, airborne particles, and loud noise, moving mechanical parts, occasional work at heights or in areas with vibration
