Position Overview

 

The Hot Plant Loader Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a front-end loader to support asphalt plant production. This role includes handling raw materials, feeding the asphalt plant, maintaining stockpiles, and ensuring consistent material flow to meet production and quality standards.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

Operate a front-end loader to transport and load aggregate materials into the asphalt plant hopper.
Maintain proper material blending and stockpile management to support production requirements.
Perform routine pre- and post-operation inspections and basic maintenance of the loader.
Monitor plant operations and adjust material feed rates as needed to ensure consistent production.
Assist with plant start-up, shutdown, and cleanout procedures.
Keep work areas, roadways, and stockpiles clean and organized.
Work closely with plant operators and crew members to optimize efficiency and output.
Follow all company safety policies and comply with MSHA/OSHA regulations.Identify and report equipment or operational issues promptly.
Complete daily production logs, inspection reports, and other documentation as required.
Perform general labor duties as needed around the plant.

 

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience operating loaders or similar heavy equipment preferred.
  • Experience in asphalt or aggregate operations strongly preferred.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting skills.Valid driver’s license required; CDL may be preferred.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and overtime, especially during peak paving season.

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid Driver’s License is preferred
