Job Summary

 

The Materials Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of material planning, material handling, inventory management, warehouse operations and logistics to support production in a manufacturing environment. This role ensures that production schedules are met by maintaining optimal material flow, minimizing costs, ensuring that raw materials, components, and finished goods are received, stored, accounted for, and delivered accurately and on time. The Materials Supervisor will lead a team of material handlers while driving efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with company policies and safety standards.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and implement strategies for materials planning, inventory control to support production goals.
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels, inventory records through cycle counts, safety stock, reorder points to minimize shortages and excess, and reconciling inventory records.
  • Ensure timely and accurate flow of raw materials and components to support production schedules.
  • Collaborate with production, production scheduling, S&OP, quality, R&D, and skill trades teams to align material availability with demand forecasts and new product introductions.
  • Oversee warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, material handling, and shipping processes.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with safety, quality, and housekeeping standards within warehouse and material storage areas.
  • Utilize ERP/MRP systems to optimize planning, scheduling, and reporting of materials flow.
  • Lead, train, and develop materials and supply chain staff to achieve department goals.
  • Monitor and prepare reports and track KPIs such as on-time delivery, inventory accuracy, inventory turns, , material availability, order fulfillment, and material cost savings.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing waste, improving accuracy, and increasing efficiency in material management processes.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements for material flow, storage optimization, and waste reduction.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards.

 

Job Requirements

 

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Logistics, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • At least 3–5 years of experience in materials management, inventory control, or warehouse supervision in a manufacturing environment.
  • Prior leadership/supervisory experience required.
  • Strength and agility sufficient to lift and maneuver heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Exposure to loud noises and mixed temperatures.
  • May include weekends.
