The role of Application Technical Services Lead will manage, direct, and support the installation, deployment, and maintenance of business software used across Oldcastle Infrastructure. The Lead will identify, plan, and implement improvements of operational systems and processes across a diverse portfolio of applications to optimize their use.

 

This is an exciting role where you will be empowered to identify and prioritize opportunities to simplify and optimize the current application landscape while supporting an enterprise-wide ERP implementation as well. Communication and collaboration will be key to your success as coordination with developers, system analysts, technical engineers, functional managers, end users, and 3rd parties will be necessary to maintain operational stability, security, and availability. This individual will ensure that all solutions deployed follow best practices with documented processes & procedures, adherence to organizational standards, and assurance of SOX/audit controls.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions) 

 

Technical Responsibilities:

 

  • Assists with the selection, implementation, and installation of software applications

  • Provides guidance and consultation on applications and related services to colleagues; may include reviewing system technical specifications, feasibility, design, testing, deployment, and implementation

  • Assesses hardware/software systems, applications, and processes to facilitate broader information technology strategy

  • Assists with defining and testing business continuity plans

  • Drives to identify root cause for incidents and implement permanent resolution to avoid reoccurrence

  • Leads efforts for performance tuning, simplified administration, and continuous availability

  • Takes responsibility for the overall planning, execution, and success of complex technical projects

  • Ensure integration middleware connectivity to applications is stable and secure

  • Monitor business critical infrastructure and applications

  • Lead continuous improvement efforts

  • Provide hands on support for application related hardware and software such as databases, printers, servers, integration connectors, mobile handheld devices, etc.

  • Liaise with software vendors and other 3rd party service providers to ensure contractual obligations are met

  • Create, review, and publish clear and concise documentation of processes and procedures

  • Enable life cycle of technical projects - from inception to deployment and maintenance

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

  • Oversees the schedules and projects for team members

  • Hires, trains, coaches, and mentors direct reports

  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive

  • Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policies

  • Provides input to annual departmental budget needs; accountable for actual expenses for team

  • Coordinates resources needed across teams for software and application implementations

  • Ensure compliance with service level agreements for incidents and requests

 

 

Required Skills/Qualifications

 

  • Broad awareness of a variety of areas of technical, application, and data services is essential, coupled with willingness to expand the knowledge as technology changes.

 

  • Strong working knowledge of the following technologies, or their commercial or open-source equivalents:

 

    • Applications/Software:

      • Hands on experience with managing team’s work in ServiceNow is preferred

      • Experience with supporting technical infrastructure of large-scale enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems such as SAP S/4 or ECC, Microsoft Dynamics AX, NetSuite, Oracle JD Edwards (BASIS or CNC experience preferred)

      • Experience in proactive performance tuning and optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools across servers and systems.

 

    • Databases:

      • 5+ years of experience with Operational Database Administration (MS SQL Server preferred)

      • 5+ years of SQL Server 2008/2012/2014/2016

      • Experience or knowledge of SAP HANA database

      • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems

      • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MS SQL Server. Setup and maintenance for Always On / Availability Groups.

      • AWS database configurations to include MS SQL and RDS. Aurora is a plus.

      • Experience writing complex SQL (stored procedures, triggers, functions).

      • Knowledge of data modeling and design (indexes, index management, and statistics) for both relational database processing and data warehouse architecture (Snowflake experience preferred)

 

    • Middleware & Automation:

      • Experience with 3rd party ETL/ELT integration tools such as Mulesoft, Fivetran, Zapier, or Nintex

      • Knowledge of connectivity methods such as FTP and API; including secure connectivity protocols

      • Working Knowledge of Automation Tools, UIPath preferred

 

    • Servers & Security:

      • Experience working with enterprise application servers with Windows or Linux operating systems and ensuring proper disk configuration to support systems processing.

      • Active Directory, LDAP, and/or Okta security experience

      • Knowledgeable regarding backups, restores, replication and recovery models for business continuity

      • Experience with cloud infrastructure platform providers such as AWS and Azure

 

    • Professional Skills:

      • Strong data and business analyst skills.

      • Ability to organize and conduct in depth evaluations, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving of complex technical issues

      • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain highly technical concepts in everyday terms.

      • Expert level analytical and problem-solving skills

 

Education/Experience 

 

  • A bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, information technology, information systems, computer engineering, business systems, or similar.

  • Desired Certifications: SQL Database Administration, SQL Database Development, Data Management & Analytics, AWS, Azure, Windows, SAP BASIS, JDE CNC, or similar.

  • Relevant hands-on experience as an application technical services administrator.

  • At least 5+ years of increasingly responsible experience in information technology technical support; including people management.

  • Relevant experience working within a large, multifaceted organization, consisting of cross-functional teams.

  • Previous experience working with mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures preferred.

  • Project management experience is preferred.

  • Excellent understanding of ITIL Best Practices, Including Change, Incident, and Problem Management

 

Work & Physical Requirements

  • Sitting for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Preferred location for this position is Atlanta, GA.; work from home/remote also available.

  • Ability to travel (overnight) as required based on business needs up to 10%.

  • Ability to drive up to 4 hours for onsite services and meetings.

  • Must pass background check, alcohol and drug testing.

  • The position may require work outside of normal business hours in response to critical incidents or business-impacting project deliverables.

 

Work Environment

 

  • Normal office working conditions in addition to industrial plant sites and quarries, requiring the usage of personal protective equipment, e.g. hard hat, steel-toed boots, and safety glasses.
