Job Summary


This position is a key resource in driving reductions in total costs and strategically managing supplier relationships to improve APG’s profitability and competitive position. The Category Manager – Chemicals is responsible for managing chemicals spend and is accountable for implementing all category related decisions regarding products and services on a local level. As a member of the global category team, this role will lead various strategic initiatives within APG including: developing strategies, performing tenders, negotiating rates and contracts, and ensuring execution within the business. The role ensures that local business requirements are considered in the category strategy. The Category Manager will work directly with suppliers, APG and CRH procurement personnel, specifiers, APG management, and other key internal stakeholders to ensure program objectives are achieved.  Chemical experience is preferred but we are open to considering professionals with experience with any raw material procurement.  


Job Responsibilities


  • Managing the chemicals category within APG through participation in cross-functional and cross-regional teams
  • Translating category and supplier strategies into executable sourcing plans and strategies based on actual portfolio demands and business needs
  • Monitoring and reporting on key market trends and price impacts
  • Driving data-backed procurement objectives into the business
  • Executing supplier selection in line with strategy, requirements, and supplier base development - and identification of new service providers
  • Ensuring efficient tendering process from selection through onboarding according to the agreed strategies
  • Leading price negotiations, contract, and life cycle management with service providers
  • Evaluating contracts to facilitate final supplier base decisions with relevant stakeholders
  • Liaising with Global/Regional Category Managers to address changes based on supply market dynamics
  • Managing supplier performance accountability for agreed KPIs (internal and external) and reporting
  • Developing and managing relationships with key suppliers
  • Other duties as assigned


Job Requirements


  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Technical field or equivalent experience
  • Operations experience within a manufacturing environment is a plus
  • 3+ years of Procurement experience required
  • Experiencing within the specified category (Chemicals) highly preferred
  • Recent category management experience in a large complex multi-country organization
