Job Description & Qualifications


We are hiring a Cloud Automation engineer who will be a part of the Information Technology team focused on transforming CRH’s cloud infrastructure and solutions to meet the challenges of next generation IT services. 

The ideal candidate will have some software development experience with a mix of hands-on infrastructure automation experience in Azure or similar environments. This position will offer the opportunity to quickly contribute to an environment centered on cloud infrastructure and employee development.  You will initially be focused on automation in three main areas of cloud operations:



  1. Deploy and Manage – Delivering repeatable and consistent infrastructure as code
  2. Response – Creating event-based automation to diagnose and resolve issues
  3. Orchestration - Orchestrating and integrating automation with Azure and third-party services and products including our ITSM/Service Catalog



The Cloud Automation Engineer will be responsible for cloud-based automation and configuration services that support consistent management across Azure and non-Azure environments. This includes process automation, configuration management, update management, shared capabilities, and heterogeneous features.


In this role, you will be developing and maintaining automation frameworks for compute, storage, network, security, and user provisioning.  You will be actively collaborating with other engineers and subject matter experts to develop patterns, templates, and standards for pipeline automation. This includes developing requirements and specifications including workflow diagrams and other design artifacts.  This is a hands-on coding & technical role requiring developer (coding) and DevOps experience.

  • Gather requirements, design, document, and build automation solutions with cloud technologies
  • Drive standardization
  • Create conceptual and physical design documentation
  • Seek approval for technical designs and standards
  • Maintain up-to-date and organized process and design documentation
  • Participate in engineering designs and deployments of Windows and Linux infrastructure solutions
  • Write code/scripts in PowerShell, Python, Azure Bicep, Terraform
  • Create CI/CD Pipelines



The minimum requirements we seek:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 2 years of experience with Azure or other Cloud native platforms
  • 1-2 years of experience with two or more of the following: Azure CLI, PowerShell, Python, Azure Bicep, Terraform, JavaScript, ARM Templates
  • 1-2 years of experience with programming languages: For example, .NET, Java, etc.
  • 1-2 years’ experience with DevOps and CI/CD pipeline technologies. (e.g. TFS/Azure DevOps)
  • Eager to learn new scripting tools/languages, automation frameworks, and deployment services
  • Excellent communications and technical writing skills
  • Ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously



Preferred qualifications:


  • Deployment and management services: Azure (Monitor, Resource Manager, Automation, Change Tracking, and Inventory)
  • Application lifecycle: TFS/Azure DevOps
  • Programming languages: .NET, Java, etc.
  • Scripting languages: Azure CLI, PowerShell, Python, Azure Bicep, Terraform, JavaScript, ARM Templates, Bash, etc.
  • Configuration management tools: Ansible, Puppet, Chef etc.
  • Linux or Windows system admin role or in a Site Reliability Engineer role.
  • Designing and building enterprise solutions with cloud technologies (Azure/GCP/AWS).
  • Understanding of reliability, scalability and cybersecurity principles and standard methodologies.
  • Knowledge of IP networking, VPN, DNS, load balancing and firewalls.
  • Familiarity with SIEM (e.g. Splunk) and with any monitoring tool: (e.g. Solarwinds)
  • Virtualization technologies: VMWare, Azure native, HyperV
  • Storage and Database systems: NAS, SAN, RDBMS
  • Agile/DevOps.
