Position Overview


The Director of Accounting will undertake all aspects of financial reporting, including corporate accounting, monthly management reporting, semi-annual and annual IFRS reporting, compliance reporting as well as maintenance and development of internal control policies and procedures.


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Direct, plan and coordinate all management and financial reporting for CRH Americas Materials (AMAT) and CRH Americas Inc. (“Inc.”) to US management and parent in Dublin
  • Coordinate the timely collection and review of monthly, semi-annual and annual financial statements. This includes:
    • Prescribed management reporting packages
    • The transfer of information to the parent for both AMAT and Inc. deliverables via the Group HFM platform
    • Acquisition/divestment reporting
  • Monthly reporting will also include the transfer of forecast information obtained from the AMAT FP&A team to the parent; annually this will also include Budget information reporting to Dublin and all completed using HFM
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions, information from the operating companies and corporate reporting; includes AMAT and Inc.
  • Develop and maintain a collaborative relationship with the operating companies providing guidance on all reporting matters
  • Lead the review and oversight of all corporate functional departments P&L’s falling within AMAT and Inc. holding companies
  • Manage ad-hoc projects as needed; these will include for example periodic financial analysis associated with debt issuance, acquisition opening balance sheet review and annual reviews, PPE impairment, IAS 37 and other Group related matters
  • Lead the Inc. team in maintaining the Group inter-company settlement and debt structure which includes centralized cash pooling and Treasury accounting
  • Coordinate the preparation of annual statutory financials and perform a quality control review
  • Actively participate/ lead process improvement efforts related to the closing and reporting processes to more rapidly and efficiently report accurate financial information in conjunction with other members of the Finance and Accounting team; this currently includes the implementation/ adoption of our new global Enterprise Performance Management environment and related applications
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Oversee monthly, semi-annual and annual corporate internal control compliance (SOX) and actively seek out improvements in the design of key/ significant controls to ensure we are best in class
  • Manage technical accounting research for compliance issues on new and existing items (incl: pension, IFRS 16 and IFRS 15). This will involve significant collaboration with Parent/ Group technical accounting team align with Group policies
  • Coordinate and be point of contact for both internal and external audit activity
  • Oversee the capital allocation, approval and expenditure processes (Capex) and ensure that information is correctly reported to management and the parent company
  • Ensure that all compliance reporting (e.g. Government Census reporting, Government payments, etc) for the Americas entities is assigned, managed and completed timely
  • Lead and support the accounting team (both AMAT and Inc.) with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust, productivity and talent development
  • Assist in attracting new talent while building the current team so the function is a net exporter of talent to the organization
  • Other duties as directed by management






  • Bachelors Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in Accounting or Finance
  • Experience building and leading a team of accounting and finance professionals
  • CPA, CA and/or MBA preferred
  • Expert proficiency with PowerPoint, Excel and Word
  • Working knowledge of financial systems such as Hyperion Planning and HFM


Work Requirements


  • Moderate travel required – up to 10%
