Position Overview

 

Oldcastle Infrastructure is looking for a customer-focused individual with strong leadership and problem-solving skills to join our team as a Director of Business Solutions.  The Director, Business Solutions provides direction and management to a group of teams providing IT business solutions and services supporting the operation, implementation and development of enterprise applications, middleware, and other integration services.   The Director, Business Solutions is a strategic role responsible for the strategy, roadmap, development and maintenance of enterprise applications as well as the integration of numerous on-premise and cloud-based applications across our North American business.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

  • Work with business and technology leaders as appropriate to develop both an enterprise integration and services development strategy.  Develop an execution roadmap to implement this strategy.
  • Establish standards and methodologies for software development and configuration of both enterprise services and enterprise applications.    Work with IT Governance to develop and establish appropriate SDLC methodologies and operating policies, technology standards and procedures to ensure SOA development and maintenance follows architectural guidelines. 
  • Work with business leaders, business systems team, applications management team, and technology architects to understand and oversee the documenting of technical requirements for the portfolio of applications and enterprise services to be implemented in support of the Oldcastle Infrastructure Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).
  • Define the appropriate organizational structure for solution delivery.  Leverage both internal resources and outsourced resources to facilitate delivery.
  • In coordination with CIO, creation and oversight of budget and financial performance on internal and external resources and contracts.  Management of solution vendors as appropriate including contract review, negotiations, operations and quality management.
  • Manage and provide direction for the application development and enterprise services teams in support of daily business operations and provide technical leadership to I.S. team members working on development project teams.
  • Direct planning and implementation of enterprise services design, including configuration, development and maintenance of ERP systems and other platform solutions.
  • In coordination with I.S. PMO, manage the portfolio of enterprise services and applications along with the projects and teams that support these functions.
  • Review, approve and negotiate major contracts for supporting software development related information technology tools and services.
  • Code Quality, standards and improvements, peer reviews.
  • Ensure that development projects meet business requirements and value goals, fulfill end-user requirements, and identify and resolve systems issues.
  • Review and analyze existing application (application design, maintainability and operational effectiveness), and then develop strategies for improving or leveraging these systems.

 

Qualifications

 

Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Education/Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or similar technical discipline
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years of large enterprise experience developing, deploying and maintaining ERP systems and enterprise applications.  Microsoft Dynamics AX experience preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience managing the implementation and operations of enterprise level applications in a variety of technology footprints.  Microsoft technology stack preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience defining, developing and managing ESB platforms in an enterprise level application.   

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

 

  • Demonstrates strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrates strong desktop, network and application configuration, troubleshooting and installation knowledge.
  • Knowledge of and experience implementing ITIL framework of services, e.g. Incident Management.
  • Ability to identify customer needs, gather relevant information systematically and resolve problems.
  • Ability to develop effective teams.
  • Ability to mentor employees.
  • Ability to plan, organize and direct the work of a geographically distributed technical staff.
  • Ability to present ideas in concise, business, technical, and user-friendly language.
  • Ability to manage individual and team travel and expenses on a recurring basis.
  • Ability to effectively work alongside and communicate with people with a wide range of skills, experience, cultures and capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver business value through IT, balancing drive for continuous improvement with respect of local company culture and processes.
  • Demonstrated commitment toward customer service.

 

Work and Physical Requirements

 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

 

  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to travel (overnight) as required based on business needs up to 50%.
  • Ability to drive up to 4 hours for onsite services and meetings.
  • Must pass background check, alcohol and drug testing.
  • The position may require work outside of normal business hours in response to critical incidents or business-impacting project deliverables.

 

Work Environment

 

  • Normal office working conditions in addition to industrial plant sites and quarries, requiring the usage of personal protective equipment, e.g. hard hat, steel-toed boots, and safety glasses.
