Position Overview

The Manager, Application Development owns end‑to‑end oversight of the software development lifecycle for internally built applications—driving planning, design, secure coding, automated testing, CI/CD, release/change management, operational readiness, and problem/incident management.

 

The role partners with the Product, Architecture, Security, and PMO teams to align development efforts with business goals. They also ensure high quality, secure application delivery by enforcing engineering standards and governance requirements.

 

The position leads the design, coding, testing, and analysis of software solutions.  They mentor and guide technical resources as they resolve issues and seek to deliver reliable, scalable applications.  The role also monitors key delivery metrics, manages risk, oversees releases, and maintains essential documentation and post release learning.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Lead and oversee technical deliverables across development projects.
  • Direct and support technical team members to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Maintain and enforce high standards of software quality, best practices, and development patterns.
  • Manage the support queue, ensuring timely resolution of customer issues and accountability for incident closure.
  • Coordinate with or oversee offshore development teams as needed.
  • Provide onshore support ownership for all customer facing applications.
  • Collaborate with developers, analysts, and end users to design, develop, test, and maintain web, mobile, and desktop applications.
  • Support requirements gathering, user story development, estimations, and work planning.
  • Contribute to the documentation of software requirements and technical specifications.
  • Stay current on application development technologies and industry trends.
  • Ensure the development environment and associated libraries remain current.
  • Recommend, schedule, and implement software improvements and upgrades.
  • Conduct and evaluate performance testing to identify and resolve defects or improvement opportunities.
  • Analyze test results and deliver actionable solutions.
  • Prepare reports and statistics on development progress for management and team stakeholders.
  • Develop scripts and tools to enhance application functionality or user experience.
  • Work with network, systems, and database teams to troubleshoot software issues.

 

Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience managing software development team.
  • 10+ years of IT and/or engineering experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in software development, deployment, and maintenance.
  • 10+ years of experience in application integration development, deployment, and support.
  • Experience with Enterprise Service Bus technologies or automated integration tools.

 

Knowledge / Skills

  • Excellent verbal, written, and analytical communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation and problemsolving ability.
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical capability.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and track progress effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • 10+ years in web application deployment.
  • 10+ years working with development frameworks such as Angular, .NET, C#, and SQL.
  • 7+ years of database modeling experience.
  • 7+ years working with UI frameworks such as Kendo UI, Bootstrap, or similar.
  • Preferred experience with mobile application development.
  • Preferred experience with integration platforms (e.g., MuleSoft, TIBCO, Boomi).

  • The position will require travel 10-25%
