Job Summary
The Manager Fleet Safety and Training is responsible for leading and supporting fleet safety and compliance within APG’s transportation operations. The position will be responsible for developing and implementing enterprise-wide fleet compliance, safety, training and driver recruitment strategies. This position will interact and support regional and local fleet managers to improve compliance and safety. This position will also work closely with the broader risk and safety organizations within APG.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage and lead the fleet safety and compliance processes for APG’s transportation operations

Promote a positive safety culture that rewards and recognizes safe driving behaviors

Ensure overall compliance with state and federal regulations regarding the company’s transportation and fleet operations including driver qualification files, hours of service and DOT drug and alcohol program

Manage the successful adherence to FMCSA Safety Management System (BASIC). Ensure system data is correct and file Dat Q’s as needed. Present results and trends to transportation leadership and work collaboratively to improve results

Provide compliance and performance reporting on a regimented cadence and collaborate with fleet operations to identify drivers requiring additional development and training

Develop and administer company wide driver safety incentive programs

Conduct and train local operations on fleet equipment and vendor audits to ensure compliance with regulation at site level

Coordinate Mock DOT compliance audits to identify areas for improvement

Standardize fleet safety policies and maintain driver handbook

Oversee DOT incident reporting procedures and provide guidance to operations and transportation leadership when needed

Introduce and provide training programs and professional development of team members and drivers

Develop job/site specific training requirements based on application (tarping, walking floor, curtain side, end dump, pneumatic dry bulk, fork deliveries, doubles etc.)

Administer “train the trainer” defensive driving training program across APG fleet

Identify, develop and collaborate with the recruiting center on recruiting strategies that align with organization’s values, performance and safety culture

Develop strategies to increase the number of qualified drivers applying to position needs

Supervise, consult and collaborate with national, regional and local operational leadership to improve driver safety, training and recruiting

Work with regulators, third-party vendors and risk/safety teams on managing safety behavior and performance
Job Requirements
- Working knowledge of federal, state and local fleet compliance and safety regulations
- Knowledge and experience with fleet technologies including but not limited to Motive ELD and Dashcams, Omnitracs and Lytx
- Strong organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal) with key stakeholders
- Ability to work independently with strong prioritization and time management skills; must be able to work within tight deadlines
- Advanced reporting and excel knowledge required to analyze and interpret data
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or related concentration
- A minimum of ten years in fleet safety or transportation management experience
- Certified Safety Professional or related safety designation preferred
- Office visit with occasional site visits to manufacturing locations required

- Travel required up to 50%
- Flexible working hours to interact with drivers and fleet operation
