Position Overview

 

CRH Americas, Inc. is seeking an Intellectual Property (IP) Paralegal to join its collaborative legal department. In this hands-on role, you will report to a Deputy General Counsel of CRH Americas, Inc. and work closely with the IP Team to assist the operating companies with a wide variety of IP matters, such as inventions, creative works, product names, and other proprietary assets.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

  • Performing, analyzing, and reporting on patent and trademark clearance reviews and patentability searches.
  • Assessing and reporting of IP infringement risks.
  • Preparing and filing trademark applications, renewals, and other trademark documents.
  • Managing patent maintenance fee and annuity process.
  • Configuring, maintaining, and providing training on the Anaqua intellectual property management system.
  • Drafting and reviewing various IP agreements, including nondisclosure and licensing agreements.
  • Assisting transactions teams with IP due diligence and integration.
  • Coordinating with IP counsel to secure timely execution and filing of various IP documents.
  • Coordinating with IP litigation counsel on enforcement and defensive matters, including discovery.
  • Assisting attorneys in providing legal advice in IP matters, including performing IP-related legal research.
  • Keeping informed of current IP laws, regulations, and proposals.
  • Preparing regular status reports regarding IP claims, training, and initiatives.
  • Providing IP training to the operating companies, including the use of IP software programs.
  • Maintain professional demeanor at all times while representing the Company.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
  • Performing various other legal and administrative tasks as assigned from time to time.

 

Qualifications

 

Education/Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience.
  • Paralegal Certificate preferred, but not mandatory. Will consider equivalent work experience
  • Familiarity with IP management applications (e.g., Anaqua) and patent research tools (e.g., PatSnap).
  • Proficient understanding of business sensitivities and confidentiality.

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

 

  • Must be proficient in software tools, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and the Internet.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with detail orientation.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Personal accountability for work and work product.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to make decisions, inspire client confidence in work product, and be accountable for work product.
  • Must provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.

Work Requirements

 

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to the safety requirements and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work independently within in a team environment and assist the team with other duties.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
