Position Overview


The Drilling and Blasting Performance Manager will be responsible for training curriculum development and leading the continued execution, communication and sustainability of the AMAT Aggregates Drilling and Blasting Program. This includes collaborating with the CRH Aggregates Global Domain Team, the Aggregates Performance SteerCo, the Aggregates Division Performance Committees, AMAT Operating Companies (OpCos), Strategic Sourcing, Drilling & Blasting Vendors and Industry Associations to provide the business with the tools, resources and training to execute our drilling and blasting strategy.


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The person will lead the consistent execution, communication and sustainability of the AMAT Aggregates Drilling and Blasting Program, to include:


  • Collaborate with the Aggregates Performance SteerCo made up of various aggregates leaders across the business groups (Divisions) to enhance, train and execute the Drilling and Blasting Program.  
  • Drive performance management through creation, training and adoption of key Drilling & Blasting performance tools and fundamentals.
  • Conduct trainings (field & classroom) for the AMAT Drilling and Blasting Program across the business. 
  • Conduct local company Drilling & Blasting assessments of aggregates teams, leaders, processes, market strategies to be used for coaching and development of Aggregates performance excellence.
  • Providing ongoing feedback to the Divisional/Company Presidents, Divisional Directors and Performance Managers. Measuring, monitoring and reporting on Drilling & Blasting performance metrics.
  • Identifying areas for improving consistency and standardization across the company.
  • Collaborate with the Strategic Sourcing Teams for Drilling & Blasting contracts for price savings opportunities.
  • Lead the CRH AMAT D&B Technical Engineering Group.
  • Assist with on-boarding and integration of acquisitions.
  • Work on ad hoc projects as directed




Required Education/Experience


  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Minimum 10 years of practical drilling and blasting work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of drilling and blasting instructor experience.
  • Working knowledge of various blasting design & monitoring tools such as 3-D Laser profiling, 3-D photogrammetry, bore tracking, GPS and seismographs.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills. 
  • Proven ability to develop relationships and to work with teams as both a leader and a participant.
  • High level of proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.


Preferred Education/Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.E.) from four-year college or university, Engineering preferred.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in a drilling and blasting leadership role.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the preferred knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Possess a current blasting license within North America.

Work Requirements


  • Travel 50%
  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Safety Glasses, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, and Coveralls.
  • Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.

Physical Requirements


The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.


  • Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear
  • May require standing for extended periods of time
  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to hold weights of 5-10lbs in a stretched arm position for extended periods of time
  • Able to climb ladders or stairs and to work at heights
  • Able to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time


Work Environment


  • Normal office working conditions in addition to industrial plant sites and quarries, requiring the usage of personal protective equipment, e.g., hard hat, steel-toed boots, and safety glasses.
  • Able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to drive up to 8 hours for onsite services and meetings.
  • The position may require work outside of normal business hours in response to critical incidents or business-impacting project deliverables.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock or burn.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The noise level in some areas of the work environment may be loud but is typically moderate.
