As an Operations Manager, reporting to the District Manager, your primary responsibility will be to drive process, discipline and consistency across our projects and leadership development initiatives. You will support and encourage the development of our Foremen & Project Superintendents while holding them accountable to consistent standards. Your role will involve enhancing how we run our projects and foster growth among these leaders. Through ensuring uniformity and leveraging our assets, including people, you will maximize our districts potential. Your visible and consistent presence will establish standardized project execution methods and clarify expectations for our company’s field staff, contributing to a more efficient operational environment.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Complete regular Project Update Meetings to drive efficiencies and support processes as identified within the Progress Meeting Update Form attached (i.e. Safety, Schedule, Staffing, Crews, Financials, QC, Subs, Claims, Equipment).
  • Identify gaps with respect to Safety, Quality, Operations, Financials and Discipline, offer solutions and drive efficiencies.
  • Improve material, small tool and equipment management within the district. Know where all items are being used and how they could be used most efficiently.
  • Understand the needs of each project and assist in anticipating project needs with Labour, Equipment and Materials.
  • Understand each project and various schedules, obstacles and key issues.
  • Supports DM and Construction Services Manager in weekly Operations Meeting with team.
  • Assist with Managing Snow schedules to ensure that projects have the required manpower all the while managing the commitment to Snow Removal.

 

Human Resource Excellence (HRE):

  • Crew Development- Be on the ground- know the men, know the Foreman.
  • Foreman Development actively engage and support DM through Training Program, facilitation of training, creating IDP’s, and identifying new foreman candidates.
  • Salaried (word different) Responsible for the development of professional / project delivery teams
  • Understand the needs of the crews.
  • Thorough understanding of crew schedules and availability / flexibility in order to drive efficiency.
  • Interact with Unions for crew development, understanding of collective agg. And relationship building with unions.
  • Participate in crew Succession Planning.
  • Assist with developing Performance Objectives and KPI’s to drive efficiencies.
  • Act as a support for all levels of the company.

 

Financial / Better Cost Management (BCM):

  • Support DM by driving standard company processes to ensure they are being used effectively and efficiently (i.e. Forecasting, WIP, Payments, Sub Payment, Change Orders, Claims, Bid Review).
  • Support DM by driving cost consciousness throughout projects by providing standardized tools / materials and supporting Superintendents.
  • Audit projects to ensure consistency and effective use of key tools (i.e. Viewpoint, Bid2Win Track etc.).
  • Occupational Health and Safety:
  • Ensure consistency with our safety programs by working directly with the safety department, completing audits and walking sites with the Superintendent to challenge/ support people and identify / eliminate hazards.
  • Support HP program in the field.
  • Drive results from audits and support ongoing company initiatives with consistent follow up.

 

Requirements:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma and / or Degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum 10 years of operations/production-related management experience in the construction or related industry.
  • Experience working on multi-size projects. 
  • Experience working with key vendors including Municipal, MTO, Commercial/ Residential Developers.
  • Familiar with Dufferin Constructions systems and processes to provide guidance and training.
  • Ability to build relationships, guide collaboration, and provide exceptional training through the support the support of Superintendents & Foreman.  
  • Excellent organizational, planning skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Customer focused & adaptable, with superb communication skills.
  • Excellent Computer skills – Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
