Position Overview

This position is responsible for providing the professional expertise necessary to plan, direct, or coordinate the operations of a marine division. Duties and responsibilities include formulating policies, managing daily operations, and planning the use of materials and human resources.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Responsible for all daily operations at Price Inland Terminal and SMI Marine Transportation LP including planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Promotes a safe and productive working environment with a sustainable safety culture.
  • Develop operations plan and direct overall activities to assist in achieving business objectives.
  • Responsible for budgeting, production planning, staffing, and maintenance.
  • Review financial statements, sales and activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing cost reduction and program improvement.  Assist in bullet points and management of CRH reporting procedures
  • Manage staff, preparing work schedules and assigning specific duties. Assist Supervisors and Foremen with day-to-day marine unloading and towing operations as well as managing Terminal operations.
  • Production reporting and data entry management.
  • Manage capital expenditures through planning and tracking of all projects.   
  • Direct and coordinate plant equipment maintenance best practices.
  • Provide world class customer service and ensure quality standards are met.
  • Assists in budget processes including forecasting, review and analyze expenditure, financial, and operations reports to increase profits.
  • Approves requisitions for equipment, materials, and supplies within budget limits.
  • Enforces compliance of production personnel with administrative and company policies, procedures, safety rules, governmental regulations, and applicable laws.
  • Willingness to develop subordinates’ technical and leadership skills.  
  • Effective management of employee performance through coaching, feedback (written and verbal), rewards, and discipline when necessary.
  • Addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to drive business objectives through others using effective delegation, scheduling, and time management practices

 

Other Requirements:

  • Marine Unloading and Towing experience
  • Familiarity with USCG regulations specifically Subchapter M preferred
  • Self-motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Manual of Safety Practices and Procedures.
  • Strict adherence to Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required. 
  • Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all Shelly Company employees.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as directed.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from four-year college or technical school in a complementary program. Previous management experience preferably in a Marine industry or similar role. Valid state driver’s license.

Proficient with Windows, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

 

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of organization.

 

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
