Position Overview

Operates and maintains functions of two asphalt plants.  Plant Foreperson generally perform their duties during a shift that varies with the hours of operation of the business, with substantial overtime, often on short notice.  Duties are performed under limited supervision.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

·         Coordinate batch and drum asphalt plant activities.  Communicate daily with Asphalt Operations Manager to determine workload and to facilitate scheduling of liquids, aggregate and plant startup.

·         Coordinate, with paving foreperson, the hourly production needs and trucking adjustments.

·         Coordinate, with quality control personnel, mix design changes and feeder variations.

·         Coordinate daily customer services which vary from day to day.

·         Complete command of the automated control system, including data entry and the ability to interpret data on screen.

·         Inspect and perform maintenance on plant parts, including:

·         ability to access bottom and upper baghouse to inspect and change bags

·         ability to access top of tower to change screens and screen deck

·         ability to access pug mill to inspect and change mixing arms, bearings, tips

·         ability to access dryer to inspect, maintain, and replace dryer flights

·         ability to inspect and clean burner tip and nozzle dryer

·         ability to access bucket elevator to inspect, maintain or replace buckets and chains

·         ability to perform other maintenance related duties on-site as required by supervisors

·         Supervise and direct other plant personnel and general interaction with other managers and staff.

·         Identify and resolve regulatory, safety, personnel, and production problems, either directly or indirectly, in a timely and effective manner.

·         Study and follow all applicable regulations affecting asphalt plant production, safety environmental, state, federal, and company policies; ensure observance of such regulations; and ensure compliance with all regulations and permit conditions.

·         Ensure that the workplace is kept in a neat, clean, tidy and safe condition.  This includes the plant, office, storage areas, and yard.

·         Perform tasks related to storage, inspection, handling, transportation, clean-up of hazardous materials and hazardous wastes according to regulations as required.

·         Ability to detect safety hazards and malfunctions and respond accordingly.

·         Perform welding, fabrication and electrical duties as required.

·         Ability to operate front end loaders and dump trucks.

·         Adhere to any and all state and federal regulations, if applicable, as set forth by the US Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), or any other regulatory agency.

Additional Responsibilities

·         Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.

·         Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.

·         Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.

·         Report to the assigned job site in uniform and ready to begin work at the designated start time.

·         Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Environmental, Health & Safety Manual.

·         Strict adherence to Dolomite policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual.

·         Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required. 

 

      Supervisory Responsibilities

·         Assist with Interviewing and hiring process as necessary.

·         Planning, assigning, and directing work.

·         Willingness to develop subordinates’ technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate.

·         Effective management of employee performance through coaching, feedback (written and verbal), rewards, and discipline when necessary.

·         Appraising performance, including annual evaluations and new employee 60-day evaluations.

·         Addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely manner.

·         Lead by example.

·         Ability to get work done through others using effective delegation, scheduling, and time management practices.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

·         High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six to twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

General Requirements

·         Must possess a valid driver’s license and dependable transportation to and from the facility.     

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

·         Must possess and have working knowledge to complete necessary mathematical calculations.

·         Must demonstrate the ability to use a computer to communicate and analyze data.  This includes but is not limited to the use of Outlook, MS Office programs, construction software and web-based programs.

·         Be familiar with all roles, equipment, and tasks associated with your project(s) and have the ability and willingness to fill in on any role or task as necessary.

·         Working knowledge of all applicable regulations (including MSHA and OSHA) affecting crusher and asphalt plant production, safety, environmental, state, federal, and company policies; ensure observance and compliance of such regulations.
