Position Overview

 

The National Carrier Manager is responsible for execution of the Integrated Supply Chain logistics strategy.  The incumbent will work with Operational and Business Leaders to establish an inbound and outbound transportation carrier strategy across all Business Units, to include managing the national network of carriers, safety and compliance of 3rd party providers, and design & implementation of transportation management systems.

 

As a member of the Supply Chain team the National Carrier Manager is responsible for assisting in carrier compliance and safety as it relates to FMCSA, DOT, and CSA. This position will also assist in recruiting third party haulers that meet both CRH’s safety & insurance requirements as well as championing the sustainability strategy as it relates to decarbonization and Scope 3 emissions.  The incumbent will work in partnership to the CRH America’s Logistics Category team to use the category management process to develop strategies, execute tenders, establish effective supply programs, and manage the overall success of Oldcastle Infrastructure’s external transportation companies. The role ensures that local business requirements are considered in the category strategy.

 

The National Carrier Manager will build strong relationships and work directly with key internal stakeholders, suppliers, CRH procurement personnel, specifiers, subject matter experts, management, and others to ensure program objectives are achieved.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Alignment with key stakeholders as well as market strategy and CRH Americas procurement.
  • Assist with creation and execution of IPG’s freight strategy in collaboration with the business.
  • Conduct freight lane review and sourcing activities in collaboration with local business leaders to identify savings opportunities. 
  • Evaluate contracts, service agreements, and supplier availability to facilitate final decisions with relevant stakeholders including final contract negotiations.
  • Accountable for procurement KPI Performance Management reporting.
  • Ensures execution of Supplier-to-Pay S2P process (from screening to onboarding and lifecycle management) for Logistics suppliers.
  • Maintains strategic relationships with key suppliers, develops, and maintains strategic relationships with internal Logistics stakeholders, and CRH North American Logistics partners.
  • Champion load optimization & efficiencies, decarbonization strategy, and scope 3 emission reductions through contracted transportation partners.
  • Analyzes supply market, anticipates changes, and drives associated third party carrier activities.
  • Identify and implement appropriate software transportation management systems (TMS) for use by Oldcastle Infrastructure sites that help standardize process and leverage spend. Work with the CRH Category Team on maintenance of strategic supplier accounts utilized by TMS.
  • Primary contact person for the business for all 3rd Party Transportation providers used by Oldcastle Infrastructure business units.
  • Manages compliance process for businesses and assists with KPI reporting with respect to overall strategy and FMCSA, DOT and CSA regulations.

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

 

  • Well-rounded and experienced logistics / transportation professional with sound business acumen.
  • Experience with all modes of transportation and negotiation with transportation suppliers.
  • Data and people-driven person, decision maker.
  • Ability to design, lead and drive the execution of the Transportation Carrier strategy.
  • A dedicated and engaged partner who strongly engages with the business, CRH logistics category, and management to enhance collaboration and obtaining the Logistics procurement objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Familiar with FMCSA and CSA and ability to report compliance.

 

Education/Experience

 

  • Educated with a Supply Chain, Logistics / Transportation or Business Degree.
  • APICS, CPSM, or other supply chain certifications not required but considered a plus.
  • 5+ years of transportation/logistics/supply-chain experience preferred.
  • Experience in managing LTL/FTL, rail, ocean, air, parcel, and 3rd party haulers highly preferred.
  • Fluent written and verbal English is a must, other languages are considered a plus.
  • Willing to cooperate in cross-functional CRH projects.
