Role

Responsible for operating or tending to machinery, equipped with scoops or buckets, to excavate and load sand and gravel materials.  The seasonal position, 6 to 8 months per year, may also assist in operating a plant and helping with maintenance.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Operate front-end loader to transport materials to and from storage and processing areas.
  • Operate front-end loader to feed conveyors and load trucks.
  • Inspect equipment prior to operation for any safety or maintenance issues.
  • Perform routine maintenance on the loader such as lubricating, fueling and cleaning.
  • Create and maintain inclines and ramps to excavated materials.
  • Measure and verify levels of rock, sand, gravel or other excavated materials.
  • Plant and dredge maintenance as needed.

Education and/or Experience                                               

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Language Skills                                           

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.  Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

 

Mathematical Skills                                                     

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

 

Reasoning Ability                                        

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
