Position Overview
The equipment operator is a skilled position responsible for operating a variety of equipment for groundwork and construction purposes in a safe efficient manner.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Understands and applies safe use and operation of the equipment and communicates with other employees about safety related matters.
- Performs all functions in a safe manner in accordance with company policy and procedures.
- Safely and efficiently operates heavy equipment of various sizes and weights use on site.
- Follow direction of foreperson as to daily tasks and expectations.
- Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment, referring major problems to foreperson.
- Perform daily pre-and-post inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies.
- Assist in training less experienced employees on proper safety, operations, servicing and repairing of equipment.
- Responsible for safe slopes on excavations and proper barricading.
- Knowledge of trenching and shoring standards.
- Keep time and material records.
- Knowledge of aggregate sizes and classifications.
- Knowledge of weight requirements of loads leaving the pit.
- Must be able to work overtime as needed.
Qualifications
Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations, using some combination of skills and abilities.
Education/Experience
- 10 years of paving laborer experience required.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Display a professional attitude toward co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
- Ability to perform strenuous work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding.
- Valid driver’s license.
