Position Overview

Our paid internship program provides a rich and rewarding hands-on learning experience and the opportunity to contribute to our organization. Our interns work in their course of study under close direction of an experienced supervisor/manager. Our Environmental interns will work with management and field personnel to learn environmental aspects of the construction industry. They will learn many aspects of our environmental programs and the steps we take to ensure our company’s compliance with all regulations, rules and guidelines. The internship is a temporary spring/summer position.


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


  • Gain a general understanding of environmental regulations within the construction and building materials industry.

  • Assist in conducting compliance reviews, inspections and internal audits to ensure adherence with all applicable environmental permits, rules and regulations.

  • Assist in reviewing required documentation at projects sites to ensure ongoing compliance.

  • Conduct interviews with site managers and personnel to gather required information.

  • Compile information into excel spreadsheets that can be used for annual reporting purposes.

  • Conduct site reviews of environmental plans (SPCC, SWPPPs, Air Permits…)

  • Assist with special projects as needed.

  • Gain an understanding over various permitting processes.

  • Assist in developing innovative solutions to facilitate sustainable work practices.

  • Assist in identifying problem areas.

  • Analyze data and information.

  • Participate and promote an inclusive environment.

  • May include limited travel within Utah and Idaho.

  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled or a recent graduate of a related program of study (environmental science, environmental studies, engineering, geology etc). or have an interest in pursuing.

  • High School Diploma or education degree (GED) required.

  • Basic Environmental knowledge preferred; previous environmental, construction, mining or geology experience a plus.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Strong math, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workloads in a fast-paced environment.

  • Self-motivated, ability to achieve desired results without constant supervision.

  • Excellent computer skills (Power Point, Word, Excel)

  • Capable of utilizing the internet effectively for research and evaluation.

  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle are required.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen.

  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

  • Ability to work 20-40 hours a week.

Work Environment


  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.

  • The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock or burn.

  • The noise level in some areas of the work environment may be loud but is typically moderate.
