Aggregate Manager Position Overview
The South Wasatch Aggregate Manager leads and manages all aspects of safety, operations, sales, finance, equipment and critical support functions with the primary responsibility for ensuring effective execution of company aggregate operational performance and growth strategy. Competency requirements include business acumen, customer focus, developing direct reports, drive for results, strategic agility and building effective teams. The preferred candidate can lead and motivate within a safe team environment. Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Provide proactive leadership to ensure the safety culture of the company continues to grow by promoting safe production at all times. Collaborates with the local Safety and Environmental Departments to maintain a safe working environment that complies with company standards, as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
- Ensures that all processes and equipment meet or exceed MSHA, OSHA and CRH safety guidelines. Continuously pursues a culture of Safety at all times and actively engages employees to reinforce safe behaviors
- Manage financial success of the aggregate business by reviewing financial status for areas of responsibility on a daily and monthly basis, assessing long-term profitability inventory control, and monitoring cash flow/collections.
- Responsible for all aggregate operations including safe production, quality, customer focus and maintaining the integrity of the safety and environmental systems within company’s operations for aggregate production.
- Drive operational performance and improvements to meet or exceed company and regional goals.
- Ensure that all crews have the tools and training to operate safely at all times and that all federal, state and local laws concerning safety, environment and other applicable areas are adhered to.
- Provide leadership and direction to ensure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources.
- Lead team in personal performance management including: team building, training and development, succession planning and effective recruiting and hiring.
- Actively participate in Region, Division, or National Performance teams as required.
- Work with VP/GM to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans, and policies.
- Participate in annual budgeting and capital expenditure planning for aggregate operations with OpCo leadership.
- Management of Capital Expenditure Projects for assigned area.
- Work closely with QC to provide consistent quality product,
- Provide advice and support to estimating and sales teams during the job bidding process.
- In cooperation with local and regional sales team, provide leadership and direction in sales and marketing efforts resulting in maximum product sales, meeting or exceeding customer expectations, and driving maximum profitability.
- Work closely with other lines of business (construction, ready mix concrete, and asphalt production) to ensure sufficient, quality products are provided for their needs
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.
Education and/or Experience
- BS Degree and or High School diploma with ten (10) or more years’ experience in the industry.
- Ability to manage and motivate team members of varying pipeline levels to engage in and support all safety, production, and financial initiatives.
- Experience in aggregate production, delivery, sales, and customer service is highly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of applicable rules and regulations governed by federal, state, and local regulatory agencies, including OSHA/MSHA, DEQ, EPA, and local road and highway departments.
- Self-directed, results-oriented, and highly motivated, requiring minimal direct guidance.
- Experience effectively managing and leading teams.
Language Skills
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write and correspondence precisely. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration, percent, land to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Experience managing budgets and performing basic financial analysis preferred
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, written or oral instructions
Computer Skills
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to type and use keyboards accurately and have knowledge of Database software.
- Proficient utilizing Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
General Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to maintain a clean motor vehicle record.
- Daily travel will be required, travel out of the area for short intervals will be required at times.
