Summary:
The Maintenance Superintendent coordinates and supervises maintenance repair and preventive maintenance activities for equipment and machinery. This position coordinates and supervises engineering services for maintenance improvements and capital projects; The position exercises supervision over a large number of employees within the maintenance department.
What you’ll be contributing:
- Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
- Establishes, communicates, and assigns job responsibilities, goals, and performance standards for employees within the Maintenance Department.
- Evaluates performance and recommend merit increases and promotions.
- Improves job performance through motivation, establishing goals, and providing feedback.
- Collaborates, coordinates, and reports progress with other personnel regarding maintenance projects and priorities. Reports progress of maintenance projects.
- Reviews, plans, schedules and supervises maintenance repair and preventive maintenance activities for the plant.
- Investigates and resolve unusual problems or difficulties in maintenance projects.
- Recommends equipment modifications to plant management.
- Obtains, coordinates, and supervises the work of contractors.
- Meets with vendors regarding new maintenance equipment and other supplies needed for executing maintenance responsibilities and projects.
- Specifies engineering data and solicits competitive pricing on the purchase of major equipment and parts.
- Coordinates with storeroom personnel concerning the number of supplies and parts needed for maintenance activities.
- Compiles records and data regarding maintenance projects and prepares reports for management.
- Ensures maintenance personnel complies with plant and Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) safety rules and regulations.
- Participates in, conducts, and ensures regular safety meetings & training sessions.
- Assists in developing the annual budget and implementing the approved budget.
- Ensures proper training is conducted for new department employees and existing employees.
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
To succeed in this position, you will need:
- Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
- Minimum 4 Years/ Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical, electrical, or closely related field of engineering.In lieu of a degree/diploma equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 7 years of experience related maintenance functions with supervisory responsibilities in a cement or related industry preferred
- Ability to analyze facts and to exercise sound judgment in arriving at a conclusion
- Ability to make decisions and solve problems with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to perform, organize and prioritize work independently
- Ability to lead, direct and manage organizations, programs, and people
- Knowledge of all equipment and machinery used in the plant and how each of them functions.
- Knowledge of MSHA safety regulations.
- Knowledge of maintenance techniques and repair procedures on general types of industrial equipment
- Knowledge of maintenance techniques and repair procedures for equipment specific to the production of cement
- Knowledge of procedures for welding operations, tool and die manufacture, machine shop operations, millwright work, steel fabrication, and pipe fitting.
- Design and drafting skills for structural steel, piping, general fabrication, and layout of equipment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Knowledge of construction techniques for buildings of different types like concrete block, wood, and steel construction.
- Ability to work from general policies and objectives established by plant management.
- Ability to refer to the maintenance manager for clarification or interpretation of organization policy.
