What You Will Do
In this role you will work directly with our construction crews and transportation department to support and assist with company safety, health, and risk management programs. You’ll spend much of your time in the field on construction sites to monitor and reinforce safety best practices relating to confined space, trenching and excavation, working at heights, commercial driving (DOT/FMCSA), and heavy construction equipment, From participating in incident learning teams and safety meetings, to conducting employee trainings, you’ll play an integral part as we stand together to reinvent the way our world is built.
Location: Eugene, OR with frequent local travel to various jobsites.

Minimum Required Qualifications
- You’re passionate about keeping employees safe and strive to continuously improve safety through innovation.
- You have the ability to cultivate a strong safety culture by proactively building employee engagement, and positively reinforcing safety best practices.
- You’re comfortable speaking to a diverse range of individuals and groups to provide coaching or deliver training/presentations.
- You have prior demonstrated experience in heavy civil construction and/or transportation (1-2 Years).
- You can effectively navigate and research regulatory agency and industry related web content.
- You have a working knowledge of PC Programs and the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- You have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, current authorization to work in the United States, and are able to pass pre-employment controlled-substance testing.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 30, CPR and/or First Aid Certifications
- Certificate, Associate Degree and/or Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards pertaining to OSHA for Construction, DOT/FMCSA, Confined Space, Trenching and Excavation, Fall Protection and/or state and federal agency guidelines.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Support company safety programs ensuring any/all new developments in human performance and technology available are utilized for incident/injury prevention and continually evaluated.
- Assist with incident analysis, by participating in event learning teams and providing recommendations for risk reduction as applicable.
- Lead and assist with various trainings including but not limited to new hire orientations, heat illness, wildfire/smoke, LOTO, confined space, hazard awareness, and others.
- Steward Human Performance philosophies, education, & growth strategies. Coordinate with supervisors and management to identify Event Learning Team opportunities and drive a Learning Culture.
- Support and promote company safety initiatives including site safety audits, See Stop Do Days, CRH Life Saving Rules Audits, Cultural Assessments and associated action items, and strategic plans to ensure continued success in meeting key business objectives.
- Assist with providing direction/technical support to ensure employees’ health and minimize potential employee exposures through established industrial hygiene practices. i.e. Respiratory Protection Program, Hearing Conservation Program, Silica Awareness Program.
- Develop creative communication methods to ensure the distribution and institutionalization of best practices through tools such as: PowerPoint, Word, Excel, e-mail, SharePoint.
- Coordinate and schedule annual safety training, project specific safety trainings and develop/assist/create project specific safety plans and/or reporting as required by the project specifications. Provide annual contractor training when needed.
- Coordinate, schedule, attend and lead on-site safety committee meetings.
- Manage and monitor employee engagement programs, liaising positive feedback and concerns between field employees, supervisors, and management.
- Maintain PPE/Safety Inventory within budget, deliver safety supplies to various locations, and manage site specific safety equipment maintenance (AED, fire extinguishers, etc.)
- Regular and timely attendance.

Wage: Starting at $27+/hr DOE w/ Potential for Overtime

- 80% Field Environment / 20% Office Environment including job sites, plants, pits, and shops,
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.

- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
