Summary:

Plans and coordinates activities of personnel engaged in extracting limestone from a surface mine by performing the following duties

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review daily production reports
  • Works with quality control to solve problems with stone
  • Oversees daily production and/or pit operations
  • Looks for way to improve production
  • Helps train employees on new tasks
  • Works very closely with Maintenance supervisor
  • Directs blasting and drilling operations
  • Monitors explosives inventory, blasting reports and drill logs for accuracy
  • Ensures all mobile equipment is operating in a safe and efficient manner
  • Determines and creates production schedules based on inventory and sales demand
  • Ensures sufficient material available to meet production schedules without stoppage
  • Reviews seismograph reports to ensure site is within legal limits
  • Plans maintenance days
  • Helps with MSHA inspections
  • Keeps task training records up to date
  • Other duties may be assigned

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises personnel within the quarry

Education and/or Experience:  

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or four years related experience.
  • Must be able to effectively use computer to analyze operations and produce reports for themselves, employees and upper management.

 

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, customers, and the general public.

 

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals to calculate proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract variables.
