Job Summary

 

National Pipe & Plastics, one of the largest PVC pipe producers in North America, is currently seeking a Maintenance Lead– Tooling Changeovers & Equipment Rebuild to join our team at our Endicott, NY location. In this job, you will be responsible for the changeover of production lines between product runs. This is a hands-on role, and will include disassembly of equipment, cleaning, and re-assembly/set-up, and assisting the process technicians and operators in fine-tuning of the line to run the next product. This position will receive direction from the Maintenance Leadership Team and work closely with the Production team, scheduling and engineering to ensure schedule adherence. There is a $1500 sign-on bonus for this position with the first $750 paid after the first 3 months of continuous employment and another $750 paid after 6 months of continuous employment.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Manage day-to-day work activity such as changeovers, PM schedule and repairs
  • Ensure that equipment is properly set up, maintained, and operated according to standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs or maintenance with the maintenance team
  • Complete rebuild planning by scheduling and assigning personnel; accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; and resolving problems
  • Maintain inventory of tooling and corresponding manufacturing capabilities on each production line
  • Proactively identify opportunities to acquire tooling to increase production capabilities
  • Work with Scheduling and crew Supervisors for prioritization of projects
  • Inspect tools before installation, and after removal, to ensure all parts are in good working condition
  • Report on tool performance (initiate tool Work Order form); report any deviation from standard to ensure good performance and perform repairs to installed Tooling to ensure downtime is minimized, able to meet schedule
  • Train and onboard employees
  • Analyze data; investigate issues; identify solutions; recommend action
  • When production process permits, assist maintenance department in whatever activity needed and assist Production Manager in any tasks that may be required at the time
  • Support tooling preventive maintenance programs, oversee and coordinate the activities to ensure smooth and efficient operation
  • Assign tasks, monitor progress, and provide guidance as needed
  • Provide and facilitate effective communication and information flow with other departments
  • Regular engagement with Quality Control in the implementation and enforcement of quality control procedures to ensure that products meet the required specifications and standards
  • Drive and maintain safety standards while being an active participant on the safety team
  • Maintain housekeeping according to 5S standards, promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and company policies, and conduct regular safety inspections, provide training on safe work practices, and address any safety concerns promptly
  • Provide training and guidance to staff, ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively. Identify training needs and organize relevant training programs
  • Maintain accurate records of activities, equipment maintenance, and quality control results
  • Generate reports on production metrics, efficiency, and quality performance
  • Creates and revises systems and procedures by analyzing operating practices, record-keeping systems, forms of control, and budgetary and personnel requirements
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and cost reduction
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements, evaluate new technologies, and optimize material utilization
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed

 

Job Requirements

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Additional technical or vocational training in chemical engineering, plastics processing or related field is preferred
  • Proven experience in manufacturing or a similar role within the plastics industry
  • Candidate who is mechanically inclined and a plus is someone with at least 3 years' experience in machine maintenance in the plastics industry; an in-depth, detailed knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical processes (thermoforming or previous changeover experience preferred)
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and quality control standards in the manufacturing industry
  • Leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Forklift certification, a plus
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. periodically throughout the day

 

Compensation

 

  • The hourly pay rate is $33-35/hr.
