Job Summary


Coordinates and supervises mobile maintenance crewmembers on preventive maintenance and mechanical repair activities.  Uses independent judgment in performing duties.  Works from general policies and objectives with specified standards to use as guidelines. Refers to department Superintendent or Manager when clarification or interpretation of the organizational policy is needed.  Supervises mobile maintenance crewmembers assigned to specific projects.


Essential Functions


  • Collaborates with contractors, vendors, and storeroom personnel prior to starting a project to see if needed supplies are in stock.  Orders any needed supplies that are not currently in stock. Manages rental equipment needs for the operation.
  • Assigns duties, including preventative maintenance, mobile equipment repairs, and installation of new mobile equipment, to mobile maintenance crewmembers and supervises their performance.
  • Assists mechanics in diagnosing and resolving mechanical problems.  Inspects completed work.  
  • Estimates time and parts needed to complete the project.  Identifies safety hazards and ensures employees have the proper tools to do the job safely before assigning the task.
  • Conducts safety meetings, safety inspections and ensures mechanics are the company safety policies.
  • Ensures that proper tools, equipment, and parts are available and utilized.
  • Maintains specified records of repairs and other mobile maintenance work done.
  • Coordinates with maintenance personnel and other department supervisors to determine start dates and completion dates of mobile maintenance projects and how it will affect production.
  • Trains new and current employees on proper procedures, techniques, and safety precautions.
  • Monitors and maintains records of attendance, absenteeism, and vacations for mobile maintenance crewmembers.
  • Support operations road map with mobile equipment plan. Develop and manage mobile equipment capital expenditures.




  • H.S. Diploma / GED
  • Two years of college or technical school in related subject matter or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Work Experience


  • 5 or more years of experience in a similar position in a related industry


Required Skills and Abilities


  • Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated written communication skills
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills
  • Ability to lead/manage others
  • Knowledge of all mobile equipment and mobile machinery used in the plant and how each of them functions.
  • Working knowledge of engines, transmissions, lubrications, electrical systems, welding, handling hazardous waste, and machine shop equipment and procedures.
  • Supervisory Experience
  • Knowledge of MSHA rules and regulations (preferred)
  • Experience in union working environment (preferred)


Physical Demands and Work Environment


  • Requires constant vision (Near, midrange, far, peripheral, depth and color)
  • May require frequent sitting, standing, walking, talking on the phone, hearing on the phone/in person, using computers, exposure to extreme heat, cold, wet/humidity, fumes/dust/smoke, equipment in motion, and high noise levels
  • Occasionally requires driving, using calculator, phone, use of power tools, forklift, heavy equipment, pushing/pulling weight up to 25 lbs, working at elevations up to 100 ft, confined spaces, poor lighting conditions, and exposure to vibration
